Owner told me he thought it was 327, but he didnt know for sure
If its a 307, its getting ripped out, a 350 would be cool |

The V/8's chevrolet offered for 1968 were 307,327, and 396 The V/8's chevrolet offered for 1969 were 307,350, and 396 A common combination for a V/8 truck was the 307 V/8 with three speed standard or the powerglide trans. I am unsure of what V/8's were offered for the GMC line. There was a V/6 offered for the GMC line. I beleive that the wood bed would have been standard in the stepside but an option in the fleetside. As alway's feel free to correct me if I am incorrect in this line of thought

Some GMCs came with a V6 305 (I think.) They had a rep as a real beefy work truck motor -- big on torque, not a high revver. Real stump pullers. May be harder to find rebuild parts for now but they kicked ass in their day.

327 would be cool with me, and it does have a 3 speed, but its a 3 speed auto, maybe a swap?

327 was an option in 68 .. so it should be listed on the glove box sticker if it had the 327 option... the 307 was standard equipment on a v8 ordered model... so if no option.. then its a 307... see if its a 2 barrel carb = 307 or a 4 bbl carb which more than likely means you got a 327.

1967 - 1969 Chevy GMC engine availability were the same for those years.
230" , 250", 292", 305", 351", 307", 327", and 396". Look for the engine serial number on the passenger side front of the engine in front of the head. Also, the rear axle numbers on the passenger side on the very top of the tube that are stamped in.

If it's a three speed auto it would be a TH400. The TH350's weren't out in 68. It could be anything though being that old.

The 68s with 327 did not always have a 4 barrel carb. Camper models with 327s could have come with a 2 barrel carb. This 2 barrel carb was also used on the 327s used in marine applications. If you have one, Napa has the rebuild kit listed under marine applications.
