Im sure I will find the answer to my question here. Im looking for an underdash A/C only system. Truck is non ac, and has aftermarket heater system in it. (I like the smooth firewall). I hoping the members can tell me the good and bad. I want the basic system. I would love to be able to buy all basics i need for the best price i can. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I went this route once back in the mid 80s. While I don't have any specifics I can tell you that I was extremely happy with the A/C performance of the little under dash unit.

It would basically throw ice crystals into the cab!!! Not really but it was good old R12 and the thing blew COLD.

I looked into this extensively a few years back. The problem is there is a very limited space between the bottom of the dashboard and the firewall. The various universal aftermarket under dash systems simply don’t fit. There’s a couple that you can squeeze in but the bottom line is they protrude into the passenger compartment well past the front edge of the dashboard. In the end the only thing I could find that actually fits is to find a used aftermarket AC unit specifically designed for 67–72 and retrofit that with modern under hood components. These trucks are popular enough maybe somebody finally came out with an under dash AC unit? I’ll be curious if you find anything ......

Does anyone have pics of under dash a/c units in their trucks? I sure would like to see how they look.

Contact Vintage-Air. They have any kind you want. I bought the inside unit one time & used Salvage under the hood parts. Had hoses built up. Saved some money. In have used a couple more of their custom units & have had good luck with them. Their tech service is good.
