Having a hard time saying no...

My 1998 K2500HD ECLB loaded Silverado was bought by my dad in March of 2004. In May of that year we put the 6” RCD lift on it and some Mickey Thompson wheels and rubber. He had it until October 2011 at which point I bought it from him. I’ve put about 35,000 miles on it since then including 3 times cross country. It’s now got about 200,000 on it with the original vortec 454 and 4l80e both of which have never been out of it. The drive train as a whole has never been touched save a few hub seals and general maintenance. It’s only been 3,000 miles in the last 5 years and with that I’ve been thinking about letting it go to pay some bills off and getting out of debt. I don’t really want to sell it because it is super reliable and I have a lot of great memories with my dad in it and as he lives 2000 miles away from me it’s like having a bit of home here with me. The dash is starting to crack out pretty bad and the paint is starting to peel, the drivers ext cab corner has a rust hole like the all seem to these days. So I get on KBB and see it’s worth at best 35-4500. I say to my self well I’ll put it up for sale at 7K then I can say I tried and no one wanted it and I’ll hang onto it for a little longer....then I got an offer for 6K in benjamins yesterday. It’s gonna be hard to let this one go if I decide to pull the trigger. I asked the guy to give me a day or two to mull it over. Got a lot of thinking to do in a short amount of time. If I do sell it I’ll take a grand or so and dump it into my K20 so I’ve got a truck ready for a little work here and there, hauling fire wood, runs to the dump etc. I should probably add a motivating factor for getting out of debt is I want to buy a 14/15 Z28 camaro to compliment my current SS. I got the late model camaro bug bad these days.

You're giving it away, IMO

I've been looking for an nice 88-94 K2500 lwb with a 350 TBI. The prices are all over the place but most of them are pretty beat up.

Re: Having a hard time saying no...

The value isn’t in the truck, but the sentimental value and the memories. I have a 31 model A that I wouldn’t have sought after. But my uncle bought it off of his uncles estate and it has been in the family since 1957. It couldn’t be bought from me at any price.

That's a tough one. I've let trucks go that I was pretty attached to, but had no sentimental value. I inherited my Dads Yanmar Diesel tractor in 2018. Every time I am on it, I feel like he is there with me. I will not sell it.

Re: Having a hard time saying no...

I should probably also mention that my dad and I built my 3100 when I was in high school so I do have other connections to him in this way. He even had a K10 when I was pretty young that I was in love with then. That one went down the road for good in 1996 and in 2015 I bought my K20 because I wanted 71-72 K/10-20 ever since. The K2500 isn’t the only truck I’ve got with memories/sentimental value which does make it a little easier. Glad I’m not the only one with attachment issues haha.

I know what you mean. There lots of them that are definitely beat to hell. I’ve always loved the gmt400s gm did a pretty good job on them reliability wise. I just wish the 3/4 and 1 tons had solid front axles.

If I had the money right now and if your pickup was a 350 instead of a 454 then I might be looking at it, though I really wanted an earlier TBI version and I'm not so sure about the lift. Plus you are 1000++ miles away. One can always fix mechanical things but getting body/interior back to nice condition is a lot harder. I would look at the price vs the cost of a new one that I don't even like.

I really like the solid front axle trucks but I've found my 89 K1500 to be pretty capable to my surprise, except that the turning radius sucks. I don't do hard-core wheeling but I've jumped some stumps and pioneered some trails with it just out getting firewood. The truck I am looking for would be to carry a small eight foot camper and go across country, so the IFS would actually be desirable. I would spring the money and time for a cable control for the front axle. Funny, what I really want is a usable K20 for my "ranch" pickup and a nicer version Gmt400 for my road pickup. Guess I'm just not satisfied with anything

i hear ya...
i bought my wifes '90 k1500 stepper in '95...she drove it 'til '04 and i been driving it since.
it's got minor issues but runs like a top. i'm guessing around 300k, not really sure, odo stopped working 12 yrs ago. paint is peeling and going south, some cab corner rust, really needs to be re-midas-ized and gel coat on the box is acting funny.
she keeps asking me when i'll sell it and get another daily...thinking instead of buying another daily, use that money to fix the stepper and keep on driving it.
i already got a toy that is my baby, but i love that the stepper is a 5 spd.
may be ifs, but it's got a crawl ratio of 57:1, and the 350 in it is much better on fuel than the bb in my crew. it's short and compact, easy to wheel thru the bush, big enough to carry the dogs or whatever other junk i throw in the back...
and it has been everywhere, including our honeymoon.
did i mention it has a 5 spd with an awesome crawl ratio...

Re: Having a hard time saying no...

Well to update this thread. I had a guy come by, test drive it and offer me 5500. He says he gonna run to the car wash close by to wash the car he came in, while I get the title ready and the last little bit of stuff I had in it and some final pictures with my family and the dog. So I get all that done and I wait and wait and wait. Tried calling a few times no answer. Finally 3 hours later I get ahold of him and he says he changed his mind because it pulls to the right and the front end has play... thanks for calling and telling me ass hat... there’s no play in the front end and it only needs the caster/camber bolt kit to fix the pull-it’s been that way since we put the lift on in 2004. Anywho I got irritated pulled the for sale sign off, threw it in the trash and decided to keep it. I know in my gut it was the right decision. Probably put more miles on it in the last week or so than I have in the last year. Moral of the story... I hate dealing with people when I’m selling something.
