Brackets are finished, next to remove 1.25” from those splashguards. Bolt them on, mock up the boards, and weld up the brackets.

Thanks joedoh, a little slower than I’m used to, but it’s coming.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

The first picture is that new running board bracket design with the proper measurements. The second is shortening the center bracket. These seem less time consuming to build, they will be my new standard.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

We wound up having to replace the rear mounts with this. I designed the mounts for a 118”, not a 123” wb!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

Now that the brackets are finished it’s time to shorten those splashguards to tuck the bed against the cab and center those rear wheels! They started by marking the 1.25” to be removed.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

the VA home held me prisoner for 8.5 months. couldn't Leave, no visitors, not even delivery's! they called it quarantine, I called it unconstitutional! I fought for 4 months to leave, they even tried to have me declared incompetent IOT keep me! I won of course! total tyranny!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

next we built a new cab dolly. (wife sold mine after the fire, didn't think I'd ever recover enough to need it I guess) that's OK, this one's better built!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

oh, I almost forgot! before the cab came off, we did steering geometry! we used a piece of DD shaft and a 3/4 hiem to capture the lower joint. to keep it from wobbling.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

then we tried to split the cast 4L60, to put in the torque converter and flywheel, but we couldn't get it to work even with the adapter!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

so finally out of frustration, we pullud one of our expensive 4L65E's off the shelf and put it in. this required completely rebuilding the crossmember as it needed to move farther back .

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.

I know it may not look like much, but cleaning/painting those accessories is very time consuming! we also put on the intake and mapped out the fuel system. it appears that when Alex took this motor apart he must have tossed the bolts/re-usable gaskets, cause we sure as hell can't find 'em!

Radiator looks very familiar. Are you going to cut the lower outlet to angle it towards the fender? I think I had to do that with mine so it wouldn't hit the belt

Never mind, just realized it's an ls lol maybe it doesn't have the same problem as a sbc 350
