1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
A friend of mine bought this ages ago. He tried to sell it in 2000 but had no takers. He found some problems with the camper part and scraped it. And like so many other projects, it languished. I know a lot of us know how that goes haha!
Now this particular friend and I have a history of swapping projects back and forth. I picked it up from him intending to use the cab and other misc parts. Next we made another trade and it ended up his again. The problem arose when I kept running into 68bowties thread on his C30 resurrection. "My" C30 was just sitting at my friends, so I reacquired it =) I have it scheduled to come home June 14th on a rollback. It runs fine, but has a bad water pump and mismatched roller junk tires and wheels.

Here is a pic of it when he tried to sell it. I figured you guys would like to see both pages and not just the little pic of the motor home. If you want to see it full size click on the link and click view larger image under the picture ...
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...b380f6&cat=500 Here is the back of the cab. He recently finished the patch from the walk through that was cut out in it.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
I have the correct bench (it had buckets) and new dark olive Cheyenne Super seat cover for it. I probably will just toss the bench in until I get done going through the inside and once Im happy with that Ill put the new cover on it. My end game with the interior is to have it completely stock, but Ill probably keep the compass =)
I want the engine compartment as close to completely stock as makes sense to me. I like the total resto's with the numbers scrolled on the firewall and such, I'm just not up to going to the concurs road haha. Going to need a new auxiliary battery box and probably the correct harness. And there are several things on there that I have no idea what is going on. One of the new wheels I purchased. Ill add to the thread as I plug along ...

Lovin' the C30 action CG! Do you plan to make it a flat bed also?

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
That will make a great hauler. You have a nice clean cab/chassis to start with.
How long are you making the bed?

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
Before I get new tires I need to decide what to do with the wheels. Truck is going to stay white. Paint is crap right now, looks like a repaint or two, done poorly. Ill redo it someday.
I cant decide, keep the wheels grey how they came, paint them white, or paint them black? I dont want to powder coat because I want it to be easy to change color down the road if I feel like it. There will be no beauty rings or shiny little caps. Possibly may get some simulators to toss on once in a while. Flat bed will be painted black, wood portion will be stained darkish. Thoughts on wheel color?

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
The simulators are only a few hundred bucks.
Might as well just throw them on there when you put tires on. I think they would look great with the rough paint |

I really like the green/white/brown interior look, especially with the green carpet.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
Had a buddy move this from my house out to the family farm to make room at home. Ill be spending all week after work clearing out my shop so I can get right on the C30. Sounds simple to most, but Im really a very messy pack rat. I have a very difficult time trying to break that bad habit. Weird I know.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
I really like the idea of a 71 (Thank You, Lord, it's a 71, disc brakes...) Fat block, PS, PB, AC, AND auto trans. There's another thread here, similar options, might be a 350..
I'd have to stay with the white color, don't have to re-do the jambs. The white interior looks nice. I have a friend with a 72 C10, interior is orange and white. i really like the green and white. The new wheels look like 16's? |

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
Yes new wheels are 16's. While I like the look of the larger wheels my goal is to keep the deck as low as possible without actually lowering the truck.
The new wheels are right out of what "the book" calls for on this make and model (the original split rims are long gone, whew haha). Just working on tires now without breaking my truck bank.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
The common dually tire size for those wheels is LT225-75R16. If you didn't already know...might be the cheapest to buy. I see folks use other sizes, some too wide to the rim, and the rears will rub each other on the ground, that's a no-no.
If you don't mind buying from Wal Mart, you can go to their website, and plug in that tire size. The can get about any brand, It will show all the brands they can get, with prices, and any tire that your closest store doesn't carry can be shipped to your store for free... |

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
C30 Came home today.
I need a new quality tinted windshield. Open to suggestions, I know there have been threads on this. I have a correct NOS rubber. I have to decide slider or not for the rear window. Im leaning slider. I have both and new rubber. I still havent decided on tires so I need to figure that one out. These are the few things I want to start with.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
No real updates yet. Have had a bunch of questions answered via the board. Ive ordered a few parts here and there. Today I ordered 7 tires (six plus a spare), and a set of wheel simulators from Summit. I just couldn't decide on wheel color, and like Chevyland said, simulators are cheap. Hopefully Ill have time to get in there and really get my hands dirty by the end of the month ... Always something getting in the way =)

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
I would be so tempted to cut that frame down to a 127” wheelbase and put a Fleetside bed on it. I’d love to have a dually truck with some grafted stepside fenders.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 Ex Motorhome
You would have to graft the entire rear frame because of the big kick up on the C30. Plus I’m pretty sure the frame channel is larger on the 157 inch wb frame then the shorter wb trucks. But I agree, it would be cool. Way beyond my skill level for sure.
