CPP conversion kit pump hitting alternator belt
Hi I bought a cpp power steering conversion kit for my 72 C20 and the brackets are hitting the alternator belt. I'm wondering if i need the 400L Alan Grove ps bracket?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...KIKX0DER&psc=1 Anything else I am missing? Last edited by Chilly178; 05-30-2020 at 03:39 PM. |

Re: CPP conversion kit pump hitting alternator belt
I Bought the same kit (wish I hadn't because the bracket and hoses didn't work for me either), but everything I had read said if you had a driver side mounted alternator the brackets didn't work and people recommended buying aftermarket ones (do a search and you should find it). I had a passenger mounted alternator but even then the brackets needed to be modified to even get close to lining up to the other pulleys.

Re: CPP conversion kit pump hitting alternator belt
Here's the correct small block short water pump set upon ebay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-70-Che....c100752.m1982 Here is the bracket on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/67-72-1972-...sAAOSw4lte0npV I found the bracket on the parts board here and used the CPP tower style pump (purchased thru Summit for the free shipping ) you could place a WTB ad on the parts board I'm sure a few guys have an extra 1-2 ?

Re: CPP conversion kit pump hitting alternator belt
I had the same problem with the Alan Grove power steering bracket you mentioned. I bought a double pulley for the alternator and it solved the problem. I am running a triple pulley on the balancer like in Grumpys photo and the grooves lined right up. Got the pulley through Summit, it's a Powermaster alt.

Re: CPP conversion kit pump hitting alternator belt
So it sounds like the Alan 400L will not work for this application?

Re: CPP conversion kit pump hitting alternator belt
No it won't work if you run just the single lower and water pump pulleys. I used the second groove in the lower pulley and pump pulley along with the double groove alt. pulley to get the belt to clear
the mounting bolt on the pump brkt. Here's pics to show how I did mine.

Re: CPP conversion kit pump hitting alternator belt
So I bought the correct ps brackets and put them on. I also bought an add on pulley for the crank and that fit good as well. My issue now is that the ps pump isn't quite lined up perfectly with the crank pulley. The pump pulley is sticking out a bit further. Do I need some shims for the crank pulley?
