I am finishing up putting a 350 turbo automatic transmission in my 68 truck, that was 3ott. I am to the part where you actually hook the transmission to the shifter linkage to column. Now. I haven't been able to find the linkage for the 68 auto, so I am now trying to use the 84 that was with the transmission in another truck. So far, I have borrowed from 4 different trucks and have all the pieces except for one. I need the spring that holds tension on the shift lever. Parts place have no idea what I am talking about and I haven't had any luck finding it on line. So, if any of my friends here have this spring or if you have the original set up for my 68 auto, please message me. Thanks!!

You will have to get the right linkage and bellcrank for an automatic.

The setup in your photo EZ....was used all up thru the 90's in cars too, I think.....cup, 1/2 nylon ball, rod to trans and shifter.

You can find a spring like that at your local Lowes/Home Depot/Ace Hardware. The compression force may not be exactly like the factory, but they will work.

Thanks for the replies...Anyone see any reason why this more modern (84) linkage wouldn't work on my 68? I'm getting weary of parts searching...I would have liked to have found a set up out of a 68 to keep things right, but now I'm just trying to get things to work...

Post up side-by-side pics and we'll pass judgment. :P notsolo seems to have your answer, but unless I see nekkid pics of the linkage(s) I can't say for sure.

I used the exact same setup on my truck, and found the rod too short to reach the transmission. Made some measurements, spliced in and extra section of round bar, and it worked fine.

Lokar also. makes a linkage setup which is what I use now

You can buy the stock linkage like in Post #2 - several different parts vendors sell them. That's what I did for my 68 C10.

That's the set up I have on my 71 c10. It came from a 75 c10 and works fine
