New Chrome bumpers - any difference?

Looking for bumpers

Need to order front and rear bumpers and bumper brackets for my 67 GMC stepside, and want Chrome ones.

I have looked at several websites and the pricing varies greatly, but the picture always looks the same. Is there more than one bumper manufacturer, or is everybody selling the same stuff?

Any suppliers to avoid?

Thanks
Chris

Speaking from my one-time experience, 10 years ago I got a chrome front bumper from GSPP, and at that time it was "guaranteed for life - if the chrome ever goes bad, we'll replace it". It's still good - and like the rest of my daily-driven-sits-outside-all-the-time truck, it gets no special care at all.

If I am not mistaken, Goodmark brand bumpers are the only bumpers that has the life-time against defects and Triplus has five years. Go to www.goodmarkindustries.com to see if there is a dealer near you or check with Christians Classic Truck parts(Tim Christian on the board), I know he carries Goodmark bumpers.

Stay away from the $120 bumpers if you'd like it to look nice through the long haul. The plating is thin and the back of the bumper will start to rust in a few months time.

I have used the cheap bumpers, and I have not had problems. It is all about prepping them and keeping them clean.

For the backside, clean it real good and either paint it with a good silver rustproof paint, or coat it several times with a good car wax. On the front, just keep it clean, and you can also coat it with a good wax.

If you a lazy, then buy the more expensive bumpers....

The chrome on LMC's bumpers is poor--don't know who made them.

SO there is a difference in quality between the cheaper and more expensive bumpers, not much of a surprise there.

Who is a good source for good bumpers without getting ripped off? Are the Stepside rear bumper brackets available now, I was told before they were unavailabe.

Thanks for all the informaiton, I am trying to get my truck on the road this summer!

Goodmark bumpers are Triplus bumpers in a goodmark box. That lifetime warranty bumper is the exact same bumper that has a 5 year warranty. No difference.
And yes, our bumpers are $119.95 with the 5 year.

I know that the Goodmark bumpers has the lifetime warranty sticker on the back and the Triplus has the five year sticker. If they are the same bumper, Goodmark stands behind the bumper for a lifetime. Why not buy the Goodmark boxed bumper if it has a lifetime warranty. My .02.

It's the exact same bumper though. Yes you get the longer warranty, but it's the same quality bumper. We have had bumpers come in with the lifetime sticker as well that were in a triplus box and had bumpers with a 5 year sticker in a goodmark box. I guess triplus runs out of one or the other boxes, and just uses which ever they have. So if you order a "goodmark" bumper be sure to check the sticker on the back of the bumper for the warranty length, if you pay for a bumper with a lifetime warranty be sure that's what you get it.

@GMCPauls

I need front and rear bumpers for my 67 GMC longstep, does this price include brackets? My rear bumper is an aftermarket step bumper and as such doesn't have the brackets.

Could you email me pricing information? fastscirocco_2000@yahoo.com

Thanks for all the input guys....I should check my mirrors, may need to replace those too!

I sent you a PM on price. They are a couple of diffrent companys that make bumpers. I guess the biggest difference would be how the company stands behind something. I do have some come back but I do swap them right out. If you are comming to the board meet at Indy. I am going to have a bumper blow out and can save all the board members Big Money. Thanks Tim @ Christian's Classics

I got front and rear for my 67 gmc step about a year ago from tim. It's only been a year but they look fine. Definitely better than the beat up painted ones I had.

I have the Triplus bumpers for a few years now but recently found that they have developed alot of very small specks that appear to be wear. I drive my truck all year long but take good care of it and the bumpers. (keep them clean and polished, painted the back sides)

My question is, has anyone here with the triplus bumpers ever returned them for chrome defects and how? Do you have to ship them to their company or return to where you bought them? Do they have a website?

I still have time on the warranty but what kind of hassle does one have to go through?

I wish I had bought them from you but I got them elsewhere. $110 is a great price too.

I bought the front one for $109 at a place 30 miles from home and the rear one I got from Chevy duty for about $130.

I guess I better contact the places I bought from. I did a search for Triplus but can't find any website for them.

I sell both Goodmark and Tri-Plus and same as Ed stand behind them all the way but it is easier to find a Goodmark dealer to return theirs than a Tri-Plus dealer.
