5 lug swap for a 70
Hi all, a FNG here. I have a 64 SWB http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/peepeeman00/my_photos I am restoring & just bought a 70 c-10 lwb from a meth head for $200, runs & drives, little rust(rockers are good!), pretty straight. It was his Dad's truck he bought new here in town. My question is will the rear brake backing plates need changed going to 5 lug setup? I have already copped the spindles & rear end from a 72, gotta lose those drums. I would rather swap axles than whole rear end. Brian

Some 70's will take the 71-72 axles and some wont. measure axles or diff housing and you should be able to tell. And welcome to the board, It looks like you have a pretty good start on a nice truck. John

With a 70 you have a chance that it is the same as the 72 (mid-70 is when they widened the rear end.) If the axles are the same length between the rear ends you just swap axles and you are good to go. If not I have read on here where guys built 3/4" spacers for each side to make up the difference in axle length.
Good luck.

A quick check with a tape shows same overall width, so just swap axles, drums & backing plates are the same? Brian

To the best of my knowledge that is it. So have at it and throw some cool 5 lug rims on there.

So, you bought a truck from a meth head in Arkansaw???? It isn't hard to find one, here, is it? I meant meth heads. Sad...really, really sad. But, we have the fastest growing incident rate of bankruptcy, so it stands to reason you gotta make money somehow, and for some folks, they can cook, and cook and cook. Like I said, it's really sad.
Sounds like you got a real deal, too. Good luck. Where are you in the state?

Hey I live within twenty miles of the meth capitol of the world (according to the DEA). I know what you mean, around here they call it the "Perry county diet plan" there are so many people on it.

I work for DEA (Jackson Mississippi) and Krue is our winner. Lucky Krue.....first moonshine, and now Meth. Andy and Barney would be so disappointed.
