Swap grills

I am working on a 57 shortbed. My question is can I replace the 57 grill with a 55 or 56 grill. If so is it an easy swap?

Thanks,

Mike

Absolutely. It is probably the most common swap made on the early task force trucks. the 55-56 grills just bolt up slightly different. they actually fit inside the Grill opening vs. the 57 that fits inside and also wraps around to the outside. I have a 55 and love the 55-56 grills. I just sold a 56 panel that had a 57 front grill and hood. Although I love the 57 hood. I never really liked the 57 grill. It is just bulky to me and sticks out to far. I like the recessed look of the 55-56. Easy swap, go for it.

Will,
Thanks for the quick reply. I do like the 55 or 56 grill better. PLus they are easier to get.
Once again, thanks.....

Question on 56 GMC front bumper and bullets

Rico,
I am looking for a new bumper, bullets and upper front bumper parts for my 1956 Gmc. Do you sell these or do you repair them? I dont know much about repairing bumper parts and rechroming. My bumper has dings in it and needs rechromed or replaced. Can you give me some info?
Thanks,
Jeff

Rico-Bob,
I just might take you up on your offer. The 57 grill I have is in pretty good shape, it has been painted white sometime ago. No dents, slight rust on the inside surfaces of course.
It wouldn't be for a few though. Have to get other parts first. If you still want it
let me know how to contact you.

Thanks,

Mike

I have surfed the web looking for all ideas or suggestions for my 57. I found this listed on and was wondering if I need these parts too.

Here is what was posted regarding swapping a out a 57 grill for 55-56 grill:

Just make sure you use the 55-56 lower valance that connects to the grill, cause the 57 one is different. But everything should line up.
Let me add that you have to have the upper and lower bar for the 55-56 grill to work. The 57 upper and lower bar is different.

What is the upper and lower bar? If I indeed need these items in addition to a new grill, who sells them?

Thanks,

Mike
