What tranny to use? (advice please)

Guys i just sold the CS68 and I'm ready to get the CE68 running SOON. I have a 67 3spd that i'm thinking of putting in it but i'd really like to get somemore gears out of it. Like a 4 5 or even 6 spd tranny.

Mind you, i've got a 350 bored .060 and it will have ramhorn exaust, 1405 Edle Prefrmr carb, and Prefmr intake on it. and the cab already has a hole in it for the shifter.

Can i get some tranny w/out a bell on it and use the clutch, flywheel, fork and housing that i have now?

I need some of you vets to advise me!

What should you think i do?

sswj

You can bolt a Tremec tr3550/TKO (5spd) to the stock bell, or a 6spd richmond. There is also a retofit t56 that will bolt. You may have issues with the stock clutch spline however. The stock setup was 1 1/8" x 10 spline, & many aftermarket trannys are 1 1/8" x26. The Richmond can be had with either spline count, but i am not sure about the others. good luck, crazyL

Sounds pretty close to my truck...if you are looking for cheap go for a saginaw 4-speed, it bolts right in there (if your old 3-speed was a saginaw). I got mine for 100 bucks.

I put in an S10 T5 five speed behind my 300 hp 350. This is not recommended for tow vehicles or dragracers because it is only rated for 290 ft lbs of torque. 1" - 14 spline input. Used the stock bellhousing, clutch fork, z bar, etc. Uses an 85-89 Astro van 11" clutch assy. Had to put a spacer plate between bellhousing and tranny (3/8") and shorten driveshaft.
