Cummins Transmission crossmember
Anyone have pictures of their transmission crossmember?
I’ll soon be fitting mine and looking for ideas...I’ll be running a 47RH transmission Attached photos of my progress - 1972 suburban 4x4 frame, Cummins 12v with Rob Bonney box kit - I’m not the welder. |

Re: Cummins Transmission crossmember
On my 72 I used 2x4 1/4" wall and made a completely new cross member. Using a stock cross member will be tough because your boxing plates won't allow the stock one to set inside the frame. Unless you plan to bolt it under the frame?

Dieselwrencher -
What did you use then for transmission mount? I’m referring to the rubber mount that buffers vibrations etc |

I used square tubing and the stock mount just made a adapter.

Re: Cummins Transmission crossmember
I don't like being negative, but i have to ask if you have trial fit the motor in the mounts with the cab and core support in place. I also bought the rob bonney mounts and frame kit and just started assembling it all. If i remember correctly the instructions said to start mount placement 18" ahead of shackle mount. I found that to be about 5" too far forward. Using the 3 holes on top of the frame as reference, the front of the motor mount plates line up with the rear hole. Looking at your pictures, I'm afraid you may be 4-5" too far forward. I hope I'm wrong for your sake, but I had to ask because your pictures don't look like mine.

Re: Cummins Transmission crossmember
In the picture my engine crossmember isn’t welded in place - it’s to be determined where it will go based on test fitting the engine & transmission.
Engine & transmission should be back from the shop & will take it and frame with body bolted to the frame back to fab shop for final fitment. I’ll post results soon |

Re: Cummins Transmission crossmember
I used a stock 84 cucv cross member and dodge mount when I had a 47rh. then when I went to a nv4500 I used my stock 88 cross member and mount.
