Rear Windshield Replacement

Looking to replace my rear windshield on my 84 from an original slider to a 1pc. Sounds like acquiring glass + weather-stripping from LMC is an option. Precision seals seem to have a good rep as well. I am sure there are a few other companies selling window + seal kits (Brothers is one I can think of). Who have you had success with? I am planning to do the install myself as my truck was just painted.

Re: Rear Windshield Replacement

I bought a seal from Precision or LMC (can't remember) and a local glass guy provided both the front and back glass. He installed and I couldn't be happier.

The only issue I have is the front chrome strip turned yellow within the 1st year. Wish I could remember where I got it from.

Re: Rear Windshield Replacement

Get the Precision brand seal. I had an LMC seal but the rubber quality and fit just wasn't up to par. Today, I cut out the LMC seal and installed a Precision WBL1135 and am totally pleased. Precision also has installation videos on their website & YouTube. Most glass shops can source the gasket and glass for you. Shipping costs for glass can be prohibitive.

Agreed, when I checked, the shipping costs were more than the glass.

Find a local glass shop and talk to them first.

If you want to supply your own rubber, check with Steele Rubber or Rubber the Right Way

Steele Rubber P/Ns:
70-1722-81 Not sure, but I think this one does not use a locking strip
70-1926-81 Accepts Locking Strip
70-1919-52 Chrome Mylar locking strip

I used Steele rubber seals all around, they were very good quality, fit good.

Re: Rear Windshield Replacement

Thanks for the input. Truck was dropped off today for front and rear windshield replacement. I purchased precision seals for front and rear along with the new chrome trim. Also dropped off the seals that were previously in the truck for the glass guys. They are providing new front and rear glass. Fingers crossed everything goes smooth...

Re: Rear Windshield Replacement

Thanks! There are a few colour combos I like on these trucks and the apple red/frost white is one of em.

Windshields have been installed. Glass shop did a good job. They ended up using the existing front windshield seal instead of the new precision replacement. As for the rear they ended up using the new precision seal. One of the workers mentioned that Precision was a good product, but he has had more success with Steele.
