Would this have an RPO Code

Copied from a Facebook post and seller its saying was a factory option and if so should have an RPO Code. I've been around these trucks almost 20 years now and looked at 100's of Spids over the years and have never seen any info on this hitch or anyone ever post anything in this Group about one. . I'm thinking it was more of dealer installed option. Anyone know for sure..

Re: Would this have an RPO Code

I don’t believe that’s original. I could be wrong though.

Have a look at the RPO codes here:

http://outintheshop.com/options.html

There isn't one for a hitch.

Re: Would this have an RPO Code

Looks awful flimsy for a original GM part.

Re: Would this have an RPO Code

The biggest giveaway for me is that neither gm nor a supplier would have stamped this on the part.

Re: Would this have an RPO Code

If the GM factory didn’t install bumpers, I doubt they installed hitch receivers.

That said it could certainly be a dealer or early aftermarket add on.

GM did install rear bumpers on the trucks. There were 2 types the chrome, as we call it, sport bumper and the RPO Code V43, for lack of a better term, work bumper.

Re: Would this have an RPO Code

You’re right, look at that. I learned something new. Not sure whyI thought they were not installed at the factory, guess they just weren’t a “standard” option.

Re: Would this have an RPO Code

Up until the early-70s, most states did not require a safety inspected for trucks. So a bumper was not required to register the truck. GM actually used a tag mount mounted to the bed under the tailgate for trucks that didn't get an optional rear bumper.

That hitch is an aftermarket accessory. Hickey offered them and GM may have offered those in their accessory program. I'd have to look at a catalog to be sure. Those hitches were commonly used and were the better choice at that time. Most folks used "bumper hitches" in that time. A two inch receiver frame mount was a rare sight on these trucks. Reese was about the only, if not the only, company that made those. I know I grew upo knowing 2" receiver hitches as "Reese hitches"
