Brake upgrade question

I have a 1980 c30 dump truck. 8 lug dually. The brakes are sorta crap. Kinda stops like an old truck. Is there any reasonably priced options to help it? Better pads, etc? I generally am hauling a trailer or have a load on the thing. She still works, hasn't retired yet

Thanks

Re: Brake upgrade question

Hawk pads or EBC work pretty well.

I would look at getting hydro boost set up. I hear it works wonders.

My personal formula is to use cheap rotors with excellent pads. The pads offer more grip obviously, but they can grab the cheap rotors harder since the wear out faster.

Re: Brake upgrade question

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. I replaced all 4 about 15-17 years ago. Might just be old...

Re: Brake upgrade question

Good pads . Look for FLEET grade @ napa or carquest .

If the rotors are somewhat rusty its time for new . Pads dont grip rusty buffed rotors .

Make sure rear is working and adjusted up . Seen a lot of them not self adjust .

Change out your brake fluid . The older it gets the less pressure it will transmit to the pads & shoes .

And your c-30 should already have hydroboost .

I run k30 trucks with the same brakes you have and no problems stopping big loads and or locking up 38" swamper tires on my old mud truck .

With the 1 ton rotors in the front and the 13x3.5 shoes in the rear, you should not have any problems stopping that truck unless you are constantly overloaded. I'd fix what you got and make sure everything is adjusted properly
