Door Lock Parts Identification and Installation

Several years ago I removed the lock cylinders from the doors of my C/10. I'm ready to put them back in but I'm not sure I have all the parts. Specifically the lock cylinder retaining clips.

It appears I have two different types. Two of one type and one of another.

My truck is a 1970 C/10 and I can't remember if the two on the left were original to the truck or if the one on the right is original and I'm missing one. Also, I'm not sure that all 3 of them are for the door lock cylinders.

I ran across a thread by LockDoc, https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...+cylinder+clip, and it was the only one I could find with door lock cylinder retaining clips that look like the matching two that I have.

Here's a pic of my three clips.

Here is one of my original lock cylinders with the pawl still attached.

Re: Door Lock Parts Identification and Installation

Does anyone have a picture from the back side (inside the door) showing the orientation of the lock cylinder retaining clip and the pawl?

Thanks

The two on the left would be the correct ones. The one on the right looks like an aftermarket. Wipe a little penetrating oil on both sides and they will slide in easier. Be careful when installing they can be knuckle busters...

This.

The clip just slides into these two slots after you insert the cylinder into the door. (2nd picture) There should be rubber gaskets between the lock cylinder and door. (3rd picture)

Also, the clips that hold the pawls on are a bit rusty. Are they okay to use or do I need to pick up a new set?

I'm talking about tese.

I added to my above post.

I usually clean them up and see how they look. Usually you can reuse them. They are spring steel.

Great news! I almost tore my garage apart looking for one to match the one on the right. Then I checked my glove box and there were the matching two shown on the left.

Thanks Leon. What's the best way to remove and clean those pawl clips?

I use the small wire wheel on my key cutting machine. You have to be careful. If they catch they will go flying. A small wire brush will probably work too. (hobby type)

To remove the clip just use a small pick and raise the tab that curves down into the hole below the clip. Twist the clip with the pick as you raise the tab. Watch you don't poke yourself.

The one on the right looks like one to attach the air filter inside the air cleaner.

Hey BigBird05, do you have a pic that illustrates what you’re referring to? You may be correct. I can’t figure out where in the world I got that one from and I’m not familiar with the location you mentioned.

Thanks
