Hood won't stay latched
1969 GMC hood will not stay latched down. It closes and seems to latch down properly but, after a little driving it pops up and is only held down by the safety latch.
The latch and latch bolt are original. Is it just time to replace them or is there an adjustment to the originals? Thanks |

Re: Hood won't stay latched
Had the same problem with my 1967. The V shaped latch pin on the underside of the hood has a locknut on it for adjustment. Back that nut off and screw the latch pin in or out so it changes where it interacts with the latch on the core support. Sounds like you need to screw the latch pin out a little to make it go further into the latch. Try a turn at a time to get it where you want. Good luck.

Re: Hood won't stay latched
Or, move the entire pin plate assembly forward so the pin better engages a probably worn latch.

Re: Hood won't stay latched
Once you get the "pin" or pin-plate adjusted: close the hood and then rock/shake the front of the hood to verify the latch stays latched.
