Re: Cracked 350 Crank, build 383?

Well I pulled the trigger on the “big” new 396 crate engine. XD should be delivered today.

I did a lot of research on ls swaps as well, and if I had more money for the project, I think it would have been a very fun route to go. One of the reasons I didn’t ls besides cost, is that my other vehicle is a 2003 5.3 1500 4x4, I don’t think I would have been satisfied with a stock 5.3 in this application and now I get to have some contrast between newer and older.

Even the smell of exhaust that hasn’t been through a catalytic converter has nostalgia. But the Dakota digital gauges do look awesome too.

I didn’t need 500hp no, but I just wanted it I suppose. I looked at the torque curve according to their website, and the Dino graph only a tarts at 2400rpm, but the torque is 450 ft lbs and increasing, and doesn’t drop back down to 450ft lbs until 5700 rpm.

Dyno graph link.

I’ve got Doug’s tri y headers DOU-D371Y ordered- https://www.summitracing.com/parts/DOU-D371Y

Hayden Automotive 679 Rapid-Cool Plate and Fin Transmission Cooler, Black, 11 Inch ordered- https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000C...b_b_prod_image

thinking about maybe the B&M hole shot 2000 torque converter? https://www.jegs.com/i/B-M/130/20416/10002/-1
[ When I called Jegs they recommended their house brand, but it was out of stock, they said theirs was rated for 500hp. The sales technician then said the b&m torquemaster 2000 was his next recommendation, but I don’t think it is heavy duty enough, rated for only 350 hp.]

Has anyone ever used a B&M traveller series? I liked that they appeared heavy duty, if I could get enough stall from it, link -> https://www.holley.com/products/driv...rs/parts/30423

Lastly, I believe I want this Eaton posi- https://www.jegs.com/i/Eaton/362/19587-010/10002/-1

Thanks for the interest and I’m going to get pictures of the build up as soon as I can. Should I change the thread title and turn this into a build thread or start a new ?
