1960 Apache C10 Step-Side Rear bumper / brackets

Hey All,

I have a question about rear bumpers / brackets... I purchased a bumper from National Parts Depot, advertised as fitting 60-66 step-side trucks, and I purchased some brackets from Advanced Auto (keystone # : GMK414180755S but they were advertised as fitting 60-66 trucks (and their compatibility checker says it will fit my truck, but I can't seem to make them work, nothing wants to line up.

Has anybody seen this combination work, or does anybody know what these brackets fit?

These are a good 9 inches or so off of the inside of the frame rails, if I bolt through the bumper, and I've tried every combination of these that I can think of.

Are these off of a later truck?

Thanks,
Keith!

thought the earlier 60's had a wider rear frame? Like 34" - 63-66 and 42"-60-62

Re: 1960 Apache C10 Step-Side Rear bumper / brackets

In the photo with the bracket attached to the bumper the brackets are upside down. The bumper drops down after the frame rather than going up. The brackets should mount to the outside of the frame rail. Also it does not make sense that the bumper and brackets are listed as 60-66 sense. The rear frame rails are wider on a 60-62. From what I can tell from looking at the classic industries website it looks like you have the correct parts. I think the bumpers are interchangeable. But I think the brackets are specific and yours look like the correct ones for the year. I'm pretty sure that the bracket with the bend in it goes on the inside. Maybe they are fleetside bumper brackets. Do you have a better photo of where he holes are located on the bumper?

If two of the brackets come straight off the frame and don’t bend side to side than I believe you have the wrong brackets. None of my brackets at straight.

Re: 1960 Apache C10 Step-Side Rear bumper / brackets

Hey Guys, bumping this up again,

Ive got some new parts ( supposedly correct brackets)

I am still having some difficulties getting this all lined up - I have tried to leave things loose and work into place, but I can't seem to get them to line u enough to get all the bolts in.

Can anybody confirm how the brackets are supposed to go - do the sandwich the frame rails, or do they go both on the inners (or inner / outer?)

Is it better to both the brackets to the truck, and then add the bumper, or bumper to the brackets and then into the frame rails?

Thanks!

Well those look more like the 60 brackets. Now, how wide are your frame rails?
But these look closer - https://www.classicparts.com/1960-62...tinfo/65-344/#

The brakes go on outside of the frame rails. They bend downward placing the bumper below the frame. I think I bolted it up to the rails loosely first and then tried to bolt them to the bumper.
