Re: Original (sorta) 66 "Deluxe" seatcover

Since were back to the top here is my restored seat with a heat seamed ivory insert, correct fawn vinyl and CST cloth nylon insert. I need to figure out how to tighten the cover or new memory foam it sits like an old couch but looks NOS. Also need to find one of those drivers side outer seat edge springs.

Well right now I cant find my stored pictures of my restored seat cover but here are some pictures of a factory new 5 mile 1966 CST seat from a Lambrecht Chevrolet time capsule truck.

Re: Original (sorta) 66 "Deluxe" seatcover

Just out of curiosity, does the white strip square up to each side seam as in the above picture? The seat in my 66 looks more like the one posted on page 1 by Andice.

My seat shown below.

Yes, for 66 the white stripe went the full width of the seat to the side panels as in post #26. The white insert on your seat and the one posted by Andice are correct for '64 and '65.

Okay, well it looks like the previous owner put in this 64-65 style seat but I'm not going to complain. It was one of the few things on this truck in such great condition so I figure why change it.

Re: Original (sorta) 66 "Deluxe" seatcover

For those looking for replacement seat springs, when I did the rear seat in my Suburban, I found a '60-'66 truck in the junkyard with a trashed bench seat, and used it as a donor for seat springs. The springs in the middle are never busted.

The outer edge where the driver slides in is often busted--for that I spliced parts together, old and new, overlapped, clamped and/or tack-welded together, to get it fully functional.

Re: Original (sorta) 66 "Deluxe" seatcover

I just had a brand new seat cover built and installed on my original 66 CST C10. This cover is installed just as the pictures reflect of the brand new 5 mile Lambrechr C10 pictured in post 26. Notice how nice my original seat frame rustfree with the original production line # 45 still visible on seat frame. My upholstery guy says the 50 plus year old cotton and burlap has to go and new era high end firm memory foam used in place of cotton makes the seat firm and tight. After getting out of seat it is beautiful tight after 30 seconds. He then replaced the burlap in both the bottom and back making it strikingly oem new. Other trick we found after viewing the original Lambrecht truck was the new seat seems aare at the top edge of seat surface not like the old stretched cloth material over the edge. Bigest mistake of using old seat as patterns. This is my latest restored seat before installing back in truck last month. It is correct in all details but the dirt in Lambrechts new 1966.

Did you have any others made? I need one for my 66.

We have been waiting for accurate, high quality custom comfort seat covers ( one for 64-65 and one for 66) from an aftermarket supplier for a long time now. How difficult can this be to become reality? This being a quality repro sounds too good to be true.

Re: Original (sorta) 66 "Deluxe" seatcover

Well, there is some hope, ...finally! After the previous post regarding a recent ebay find, I did some investigating and found a seller who had reproduced a seat for himself and took the initiative to have a few extra made to sell so he could offset his cost. Apparently, two versions were completed. One version utilized all NOS fabric, one used current similar vinyl and cloth. Both are sewn in the 66 Custom style. No heat pressed stripe on either, but the sew job is of good quality, and the fit is very nice.
I purchased one of the last available "similar" covers and installed it myself on my '65 daily beater. Wrong year stripe and wrong fabric I know, but dang, WAY better than anything else out there in that price range of $395. I like it a lot despite the differences from exact duplication. Perfect for this particular truck and how I plan to use (or abuse) it.
I let the seller know that I thought he was sitting on a gold mine if he wanted to do more, and I think he is considering it.
Below are pics of the sewn details, and one final installed in the truck.
So pleased!
