Excellent thread Greg. Shame the painter was a failure, but in the end your truck will be even better. That truck is sweet.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super coming apart to go back together

just a little progress to report although i'm going backwards, but sometimes you have to back to go ahead, and that's certainly the case here.i have been busy with some customer cars and will be dumptrucking tomorrow but today with help of a neighbour, got the front fenders off.a pretty delicate job with all that new paint but off they came without any trouble.i have the fenders wrapped in furniture blankets and put away for now.with the fenders off,the overspray everywhere is even more evident when you're standing looking at it and i think it's visible even in the pictures?what a mess but i fixed it once,i can do it twice.i included a picture of how it looked when it went for it's first miserable excuse for a paint job in May,just as a little reminder of how good i think it did look?we'll get there again.

thanks a million.i'm glad this truck is mine, never had one this nice.the picture of the engine looking good isn't what it looks like now, that was what it looked like before the first wanna-be,make believe moron painter got a hold of it for the first paint work in May.the picture with the white paint splattered all over it is how it looks now.that's why it's all coming apart and back out.we'll get it how it should be,just more time and elbow grease.take care.thanks and we'll be waiting to hear about yours.thanks.Greg

hi Richard, nice to hear from you.yes sir,we're doing this AGAIN??seems like i've been spinning my wheels for a year now,i am right about where i was this time last year?anyway you gotta do what you gotta do.i had several 10 cent experts stop in and tell me it was "good enough" with everything covered in overspray.not a chance.we'll get it like it should be over the winter and drive it out of here in the spring and then get back to the 39 Chrysler sitting waiting in the corner for some attention.take care.Greg

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super coming apart to go back together

all the parts needing repainted are done.the wire harness is cleaned of paint although i had to retape the whole thing, nothing i had here would take the white paint off the original tape job.the motor is going back in the truck tomorrow, maybe tomorrow there will be real progress to report?

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super coming apart to go back together

engine went i today, thankful that my buddy Keith drove up to lend a hand.i don't have everything done and ready to fire but i expect in the next couple of days,it'll be running although i may need a break in the action to run to Halifax to visit with my sister, she just had open heart surgery yesterday and a new heart valve?family comes first but either way this truck will be running soon and then i'll carry on with putting the rest of it,back together.it's all good.take care.

thanks Tim.i did have this fresh engine running last spring for the first time, then drove it 20 minutes or so to the body shop from hell, then it went to the paint guy who knew what he was doing in October but an hour or so away and did that on my trailer, then once it was back from paint,i took it apart,so it hasn't run much, just through the break-in and that short drive. if there's new engine smell left,i'll get to enjoy it in the next few days.we'll see.take care, all the best.Greg.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super coming apart to go back together

more progress today,a few more parts and pieces installed.more tomorrow.i did plan on starting maybe tomorrow on the front sheet metal but i see the seals between the doors and fenders loaded full of paint and i have a new set so they'll go on and clean up that mess before i move onto sheet metal, but it'll all come together, sooner or later.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super coming apart to go back together

a little more progress, slow going but i removed the old seals and retainers between the doors and fenders since they were old and covered in overspray,in order to install new seals on my original retainers.the new seals didn't come with the staples to put them together so i made staples out of mechanics wire.it worked but took too long, the story of my life??anyway they're on and today i worked on trimming up the front fenders with emblems and moldings so that when ever an extra set of hands is available,we'll put the fenders and hood back on.i have the hood hinges soaking in paint stripper as they were slobbered with green paint at the first make-believe body shop.it's coming together.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super coming apart to go back together

not too much to report on today,i made some shims for the front sheetmetal and spent several hours working on a set of hubcaps i'm doing for this truck.i have them stripped of the original paint, started polishing and working out a couple small marks, soon they'll be ready for the new black and blue decal set i bought for them.
