yep....
never had or used the chevy camper equipment. i just don't understand why they would secure your camper to body sheet metal...a little bit of camper flexing and i can totally see the box sheetmetal oil canning, or like ya say, cracks. i remember my dad used stake pocket mounts on his '72 gmc with a 8 1/2 foot camper and it distorted around the pockets-not a lot, but they weren't the straightest when he sold his camper...maybe chevy went this way cause squares are not the easiest to put belly bars on to.
my '77 3/4 ton had the camper special badges behind the doors on the pillar
