Got my '50 s10 swapped, and installed the 4.8/4L60e
Frame is a 93, fuel tank had a low pressure fuel pump. I ordered a new fuel pump assembly for a 97-2002 s10 that i assumed would be a direct replacement for the low pressure one in the tank. But the new pump diameter is larger than the hole in the existing tank...

If I order a new tank for a 97-2002 will the new pump fit the hole..?

I'm assuming the fuel pump is in the tank. If so, can you just upgrade the pump itself?

cant remember the inside part of the old style tanks. does the pimp sit in a plsatic tray used so the pump doesn't cavitate when the tank is low and you go around a corner or up a hill where the fuel would run away from the pump?
you could remove the original pump and replace with a section of tubing with the sock filter left on the end. that would give you unrestricted fuel supply through that outlet tube on the tank. then install an inline pump, like the corvette unit a lot of guys use, to get the pressure right. first you will need to know if the engine requires a single fuel line or a pressure and a return line.

Yes pump is in tank. I have a frame mounted one on my 72 K10 as I am using the stock in cab tank.
I guess I will order a walbro and swap it into the tank. I checked the fuel pressure and I've got 40ish psi but it drops off when real fast when pump not running. I have to cycle the pump 2-3 times (key on key 0ff) then it will start and run for 2 secs. PCM signal for fuel pump stays on but pressure drops. I'm thinking no check valve..VATS is deleted.

The old system of injection ran at lower pressure than the LS needs.

get the 98-2003 plastic tank, the 00-03 2.2 4 cyl flex fuel pump is the one you want. the alternative is an external walbro that will make you wish your exhaust was louder.

I don't remember what year metal s10 fuel tank I bought(is a spectra premium GM16D), however the pump from the 2000 silverado 4.8 donor vehicle fit and works. I had to trim the orientation tap on top of pump housing. And I believe I needed to purchase a retainer, like a big C-clip.
