6l80e or 6l90e in a C10

I haven’t seen many builds of c10s utilizing a newer 6 or 10 speed automatics. Can you guys direct me to some builds where I can read and learn about a 6l80e or 6l90e being put behind an LS in a 1967-1972 c10?

Is there a reason not many are doing it? Fitment, source-ability? price?

am I better off with a 4l80e?

You are better off with a 4l as the controller for the 6L if you are not using an LS or LT engine with matching computer is almost $1000 in itself.

They work great as I have a 6l80E in my 68 C10, but I wouldn't go out of my way to install one. The final gear ratio is the same as the 4L and you are just adding more gears. Plus the 4L shifts better.

With the 6L, you have to install the high hump. I am not sire if you have to do this with a 4L.

The final gear ratio is not the same as the 4L60's.
The 700R4/4L60E/4l65E/4L70E all are 1 to one in third and 4 is a .7:1 overdrive.

The 6l80E has two OD ratios, both 5th and 6th.

5th gear is almost identical to 4th (OD) in the 4L60. at .7 to 1.

The 6L80's 6 gear is .5 to 1, nominally.

Not exactly. The 6l has a .68 6th gear and 5th is .85. A 4l60 has .69 and a 4l80 has a .75 4th gear ratios..

Really, all they did is add a steeper 1st gear, and stuck a 5th gear in between 4th and 6th. 4th gear in a 6l is 1.15:1, not your typical 1:1, so it just doesn't have the huge drop like the 4l.

All I know is I rebuilt my first two 6L80's last December. Each was over $1200 in parts.

I could rebuild many 4Lxxx's for that
