How To Restore and Detail an Original Gauge Cluster

I am about to restore mine now. I bought one from ebay for $50 shipped or so and am following the DIY in this thread to restore it. I took it apart once just to make sure everything was easy as it seems and it is...

Here is one on ebay with gauges...just search ebay or look at the calssifieds here or even junk yard if there are any around you.

Thanks so much for the information...I sent the guy a message....It doesn't have the wiring harness that goes with it so Ill juts look around...Ill see what he says...Once again I really appreciate your help.

You are welcome...you can buy new wiring harnesses for around $65 or so also. I may do this if I can't get mine sorted out. Mine fortunately came with a harness though.

Thanks for this awesome tutorial! OK wacky idea below, I want to replace the ammeter with a voltmeter for safety and functionality. I found a relatively cheap one that has similar needle sweep angle to original, and should be “simple” to modify and use one of the ammeter decals on the replacement voltage gauge and fasten to the gauge cluster. My question is, do you think it possible to somehow remove the “D BATT C” (from the dash lens glass) and replace with a reverse-print letter decal in a close color/font with “8 VOLT 18” to make it look close to original? Do you know if the letters are painted on, might scrape off without marring glass? I may just try with a donor and let everyone know if it works. I am asking before even looking at the gauge glass but value your professional opinion!
