Cruise Control Cable
WANT TO BUY Should have put that in the title, Duh.
Looking for my son who has a '96 Chevrolet Z71 1/2t 4x4 with the 5.7 Vortec engine. It's the OBS pickup and he is needing the cruise control cable for such if someone is parting a similar vehicle with the 5.7 Vortec. Can be from a 96 thru 99, maybe up to an '01? Tahoe, Suburban or pickup but he is needing the cruise control cable, no longer available from GM. I told him I would check here as our salvage yards are picked pretty clean, what few yards we have left. Do not have Paypal but can do money order or cash payment. Let me know what you have and please post a pic along with a price, thanks.

Re: Cruise Control Cable
I have this cable, although I'm not sure what year of truck it came out of. It is probably out out of a pre-Vortec truck. These are a real bear to remove from the control module without cracking the tabs. I broke about three cables before I removed this one successfully.
Based on the following links, there are two cables: 1988-96 15985837 1996-99 15734164 There appears to be an overlap in 1996. I wonder if that means they are interchangeable. https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...cable-15985837 https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...cable-15734164 |

Re: Cruise Control Cable
I found this photo online. It appears that the Vortec style cable is significantly longer than the one I posted above. The Vortec style swoops around the front of the engine and attaches to the throttle body on the passenger side. The pre-Vortec cables, on the other hand, attach to the throttle body on the driver side.

Re: Cruise Control Cable
Patrick, thanks for the replies and the pics. Not at all sure which cable would be correct for my son's truck? Will have him come by and look at the pics, maybe that will help him decide which cable would be correct for his truck. Measuring the length of the cable on his truck will help also.

Re: Cruise Control Cable
Got this cruise control off of a 1996 C1500 with a Vortec V8 and 180k miles. There were several trucks in the yard with this cable, but this one had the lowest mileage, at least according to the odometer. It's the long style that swoops around to the passenger side and is around 4-1/2 feet long. The clips are intact.
