I would not switch to a 1-wire alternator. Not sure what all you have going on, but the 105a factory alternator should do all you need.

I would run a larger cable from alternator to starter. That is what I did on mine. I think I used 8 guage. 4 sounds like overkill from the alternator...

I'd go thought and make sure all your connections are clean and grounds are well connected too.
