Yes, about your year and older the rails were the same length and they had the funky beatup/welded end. New ones have one longer rail and an offset linkage(not the flat straight one). Do a google for np205 shift rail linkage and you will see the offset linkage with a one longer rail. Bottom line, if you're casing down new rails, make sure you get the correct ones for your linkage... else prepare to modify your linkage.
