Teen Truck Build 83 swb

My son turned 14 in feb so he is interested in a truck project. I ran across an 83 swb couple weeks ago, blown engine, but solid, previous texas truck, saved from the crusher.
He was able buy it himself from his summer job for the asking price of $450.
We have a year and a half for the father son project, start slow and hit it hard next spring. He is excited (and I am too!).

Looks really solid for Iowa and is apple red on top of it (my 81 is that color). Looking forward to the build.

Re: Teen Truck Build 83 swb

Thanks.

It is really solid, only had to drive 20 miles to get it, just some cab corner work, and a spot under the left tail light. it will be going to a dark blue metallic.

Just some update of photos, keep thinking “do this later” well over a year later now. Last summer chassis blasted, assembled.

Hopefully going in booth for paint in a few weeks. He’s spent most of his spring break on final blocking of cab and bed.

It is awesome to see a young person learning and working on their vehicle project! The dash change will turn a few heads too. Cool idea.

Coming alog nicely!!

What blue is that?
Askign because we did Admiral Blue Metallic from the 2016/17 Corvette - looks similar on a computer monitor.

I was kinda back and forth on it at first but I really like it.
Adapted 67-72 a/c faceplate to the square body climate controls. The levers lined up really well.

That is such a good idea!!! I don't recall ever seeing anyone doing that before. I'll bet it looks great when it is done.

I should do that with my GMT800. Get rid of all the electrons and put levers in there.

Want heat? BAM! Slide the lever without even looking.

Defrost? BAM!

I practically have to pull over to adjust the heat or a/c the way it is now.

Ditto!
I've been considering utilizing an earlier C10 dash ('62) in my OBS CC truck. All the plastic stuff breaking & the cheapy actuators for the blend doors failing has me frustrated more often than not.
