Goodwrench Targetmaster specs Anyone know them?
ID on Pad: 10066036
I know this is a "Hecho in Mexico" 350, 2 or 4 bolt mains, etc. I also know they often came with crap 76cc chamber heads. But can someone tell me what the compression, power output and camspecs on one are? I have more heads, wanted to know if I could just swap to a smaller chamber/bigger valve head, or if a cam change is also in order. Runs smooth. Just need the truck to tow my Chevelle, but as usual I can't resist trying to make it faster all while trying to retain decent gas mileage. I've heard some people say that these block are crap, but many others have used them for years without problems. Just wondering if anyone bought one of these high powered puppies and has the specs. Thanks |

Re: Goodwrench Targetmaster specs Anyone know them?
Are these engines better than the stock 73-85 V8's?

Re: Goodwrench Targetmaster specs Anyone know them?
I got one from the junkyard for 600 bucks (complete) and put it in my '67 - I added an intake and carb combo from Summit and it runs great, pulls nicely, and doesn't smoke at all. I will end up pulling it and putting in ZZ4, but for now, I'm quite happy with it - I can't help you with the specs, though.

Re: Goodwrench Targetmaster specs Anyone know them?
I am going to try to do this from memory. The compressoin ratio is 8.5:1. The horsepower is 230ish? You could put in a cam around 260 -268 with 45-475 lift and a set of vortec heads and HANG on ! that will pump that mtoor right up ,and you'll be grinning aal the time. The vortec heads are better floeing than any thing else the general has put on a smallblock. You can expect a gain of 30-50 hp by going to that stlye of head. You will need a vortec intake but you probably needed to update the intakeand carb on the motor anyway. Jim

Re: Goodwrench Targetmaster specs Anyone know them?
From wikipedia;
Goodwrench The GM Goodwrench 350 crate engine comes in several variations. The cheapest version produces 195 net horsepower (with accessories), and 260 gross horsepower (without the alternator, power steering, A/C compressor, catalytic converter, factory exhaust manifold, and muffler) when used with a four barrel carburetor, dual exhaust, and headers. The low output is the result of the relatively low 8.5:1 compression ratio, restrictive cylinder heads, dished pistons, and stock camshaft profile.[citation needed] All of the GM Goodwrench engines use the pre-1986 four-bolt casting molds with two dipstick locations; pre-1980 on the driver's side and post-1980 on the passenger's side. This engine was produced in Mexico since 1981 as the Targetmaster 350, and now the GM Goodwrench 350. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Goodwrench Targetmaster specs Anyone know them?
I had a Target master in my truck and we put 140,000 miles on it without issue. We got a little excited with it and caused some damage, so when we replaced it with another block from GM going into it's place. Both engines received an upgrade in the cam and intake, along with headers. The second engine is still running in my son's truck and doing just great.

Re: Goodwrench Targetmaster specs Anyone know them?
Ive put hundreds of them in light duty fleet trucks. You put the engine in tune in up a bit & send it out the door & never have to mess with it again. They are better quality then the original equip. engine in the car's & 1/2 tons. I would put it in with a good 4 barrel, HEI, & dual exhaust & it will probably do everything you want.

Re: Goodwrench Targetmaster specs Anyone know them?
Funny thing about the Goodwrench oilpan; you need a gasket that has the pop-outs for the dipstick on both sides. I told the guy at O'Riely's Auto Parts, that I needed a gasket for a GM Goodwrench 350, and he said it didn't matter. So much for him knowing what he is talking about...

Here yo go...
For most stock applications with HEI ignition, Base ignition timing should be set to 10 before top dead center (with vacuum advance disconnected) Total ignition timing should be around 36 BTDC @ 3000 rpm.
