On your swap, try to put your headers on prior to sitting the engine all the way down and bolting it in place. I have tried Pacesetter Fbody headers and Schoenfeld C10 LS swap headers and it looks like I’ll be lifting the engine first and maybe even slightly notching the frame. Mine is an LS1 and I noticed it does have different mounting holes then an iron 5.3. I can’t remember which adapter plates work either but Schoenfeld recommends using a certain Dirty Dingo part number and claim their headers will fit.
If you use the camaro LS3 or L99 waterpump like I am using, it will line up with the truck accessories of your 5.3 and you can use a short uppoer radiator hose like I am using instead of running one across your radiator.

Today I cleaned up a bunch of small stuff that I have been needing to do. Also got the passenger side Schoenfeld header bolted up.

Glad to see you're keeping at it. That's a neat truck. What is it that you do that has the long-haul shifts like that?

I am a Wireline Engineer. Wireline has a few different Oil & Gas services. I actually work 24 hours on, 24 hours off for 14 days then I’m off for 7. But it doesn’t always work that way haha

That sounds pretty painful but, 7 days off seems like a legit reward.

It used to be way worse haha. I had 7 days off in 2016. I’m at a new company now. But anytime a new guy screws up, I get to work my days off.

The survice I primarly provide is perforating. I send down explosives into the well and I shoot perforating guns to make holes in the casing (pipe). Frac then pumps sand through those holes. The thing is we usually only do an area of 100-200’ at a time. Frac will pump sand. Then we send more guns in and shoot more holes, then they frac again.

Re: My 85 C10

Well, I finally got some time off work and got to ise my buddies shop oday. Lifts are a gift from God. After a little grinding on the driver side frame rail, a little bleeding. An awful lot of cursing... the driverside Schoenfeld header is in. I’ll say this,#%*! Schoenfeld headers. Fit 73-87 C10’s my @$$. The driver side second primary kept hitting frame rail enough that it didnt want to slide in forward. Once I shaved that down, it kept hitting the clam shell motormount. After denting the primary and shaving a little off the clam shell it fit. Then the gridning wheel broke in half and scraped my nose a little, haha. No big deal though.

Also got the Circle D Stall, TCI Flexplate and 4l80e in!! Tomorrow I’ll drop the trans pan and put the TCI pan on. The torque convertor botls off the ‘98 LS1 couldn’t be reused, neither could the ARP bolts. I had to use the bolts that TCI sent with the flex plate to clear one of the bolts on the rear main seal cover or a timing bolt, couldn’t really see back up in there.

I’ll upload pics, hopefully they wont be upside down.

Re: My 85 C10

Today I was able to knock all the rivets out of the spare tire hanger and rear subframe. I’m going to try and coat the rails from the cab back with Por15. And get the K5 Blazer tank mounted. Stay tuned for pics...

Re: My 85 C10

I decided to install the Lokar column shift linkage. If you use this on a 4l80e, you will want to take the allen head out of the adjustable piece that bokts onto the side of the transmission, and shift the insert to where the arm is almost horizontal when in park. I will upload a picture to show what I mean. If you dont the piece will be sticking up vertically when you’re in park.

These aren’t my photos but I followed these to do the install. I also had to bend the shaft in order for it to work.

The pic probably posted sideways... but the adjustable arm bolted to the trans should be all the way forward/horizontal with your column in park.

Re: My 85 C10

Still waiting on my Riedtech Strong Arms, spindles, front sway bar and coilovers.
I was really hoping to get all of that installed along with the SSBC rotors & Wilwood calipers before I am back at work for two weeks. I still have 3 more days off so maybe I’ll be in luck!

Re: My 85 C10

Finally got some packages from Ridetech delivered a few weeks ago. Friday I took the bed for a 5 hour journey from Midland Texas to Plano Texas to get started on the body work. Truck already has a Sir Michaels roll pan welded on and a shaved tailgate. My buddy Francisco is going to shave the stake pockets and the fuel door. Minor body work is needed and it will be ready for paint. Hopefully in the next 4-6 weeks I will be able to take tbe rest of the truck and get it finished as well.

I don’t have many new pics haha. Waiting for the guy doing the paint and body work to send me some pictures.
As soon as I get some time, I’m going to pull the glass out, take all the door handles, etc off the truck so I can take the truck to him so he can finish all of that.

Re: My 85 C10

It’s been about half a year since I have done an update.
I took the bed to a body shop in the Plano/Frisco Texas area and paid a guy $3000 to get started. He didn’t get much accomplished.... At least not on the body work. Apparently he decided to moonlight body work and become a professional drug trafficer. He was arrested a few months at the border of Texas/Mexico transporting a large amount of cocaine. I ended up driving 6 hours or so from Midland to pick up the bed from the landlord of the building and dropped the bed off with another more reputible body shop. So far, my luck with body shops isn’t much better today then it has been. I don’t believe the second body shop has even started. All of this is why I dropped the bed off only, and have been reluctant to hand over my entire truck.

On a more positive note. Check out the quality of these Ridetech control arms!

Damn dude, sorry to hear this... Sadly, this is why I try and learn to do everything myself. I am scared to death to have to deal with stuff like that. I hope it all works out. Looking forward to more updates.

I would love to do the bodywork myself. Unfortunately, my career choice has left me with not enough time to learn, do the work, and live in hotels when I’m not on a wellsite somewhere in the middle of West Texas. It will get done one way or another.
