Question Fuel neck Wittek tower clamp sizing info

Posted this over in the classifieds with no response to this inquiry.

I have the info for the small vent hose clamp, which is a Wittek SG-26. Looking for the size of the two large tower main fuel hose clamps.

Pic for clarity

Re: Fuel neck Wittek tower clamp sizing info

Precision Tractor parts has 1 1/2" tower clamps....I don't remember is the tube 1 3/8" or the hose, O.D. of the hose would help.

Still looking for someone with a 1969-71 filler neck setup and original clamps to provide the large clamp sizing info.

Lightbulb Re: Fuel neck Wittek tower clamp sizing info

I figured out the correct size per GM parts catalogs, and verifying the size on one of my original clamps. Using the part number info for the hose 457516, I was able to find that the correct clamp is 1 15/16"- GM part number 9414933. I was able to clean one of my original clamps and saw a faint 1-70 build date and the 1 15/16" size stamped on it.

I purchased a pair of them from Marti, who produces them the most accurately as original, especially the alloy quality.

Exclamation Re: Fuel neck Wittek tower clamp sizing info

Received the repro Wittek clamps. I oiled them prior to tightening them. One tightened perfectly. The other was tightening crooked. After about 30 mins, I was able to get the clamp to evenly tighten down. While the appearance is authentic, the construction of these is flimsy as compared to the originals.

Re: Fuel neck Wittek tower clamp sizing info

Thanks for sharing the details. I sure do like the look of tower clamps but they sure don’t tighten/seal like a worm drive clamp.

One advantage of the tower clamps is the entirely smooth clamping surface. The openings on a worm gear clamp can damage the hose.

The NOS Wittek SG-28 vent hose clamp I used tightened perfectly the first time, and was very sturdy. ALL of the repro "Witteks" I have used are made from an overly malleable steel. The originals were far harder, but seem to tighten easier and more reliably.

Talking Re: Fuel neck Wittek tower clamp sizing info

Back to the Wittek clamps..

I used genuine NOS 1969 dated Wittek tower clamps on the radiator hoses on my 1970 Blazer. They were night and day difference as compared to the soft junk that is being made and peddled as Wittek. The originals are made of a galvanized spring steel.

They are darker and not as pretty as the reproductions, but there was absolutely NO drama.

The real deal are also 10 times the cost! LOL
