DOD delete
going thru the preliminaries for a swap on my 72 K10, 350, sbc, th 350 trans., np205 transfer case
I have a gen 4 5.3 with a 4l60, and transfer case from a 2008 1500, my thought was to just mate it to my th 350 as I,m reading the tailshaft would need to be changed in the 4l60 to mate to my NP 205..Correct? also the 5.3 has dod, no vvt... the dod delete thing looks involved, I talked to PSI who says their harness doesnt recognize dod and it will run , the manual config will work with the th 350. question is, Do you have to do the whole cam/lifter deal for the dod or can you run it by passed? |

Re: DOD delete
you will need to do something in a form of a mechanical DOD delete "kit" on the engine & would highly recommend it! I dealt with this issue on my '13 GEN IV and it cost me big time (rebuild of the engine) the ECM needs to be reprogrammed to delete the DOD as well. google DOD delete kit and that will give you guidance. brian tooley kit is very good. Do not run the engine until that is taken care of... I learned the hard way!
good luck!!! |

Re: DOD delete
Not a expert on DOD but from what I've read on a number of sites it's the lifters that die causing a good bit of engine damage. Just turning it off doesn't help with the lifters.
The "proper" way to do a DOD delete is pull the heads and install new lifters. Ask the same question over on LS1tech.com. |

Re: DOD delete
For what it’s worth, I ran my GEN IV 5.3 with the DOD deactivated and no other changes for 7 years before I put a BTR cam in it and I had zero issues.

Re: DOD delete
Depends on the condition of your 5.3. If it's a high mileage motor I'd do the DOD (mechanical) delete. You can put in a bigger cam if you want. Mine had pretty low miles so I never touched the DOD mechanical hardware, just deleted it in the tune.
