1968 Air Cleaner BBC

Looking for a 68 Big Block air cleaner for my 67 conversion.
I'm Going for stock look on the conversion.

Big blocks have shorter snout, larger area on inlet of snout.
At least on cars they do.

Yup, look like my pic. I'd like one of those dual snorkel jobs but can't quite skin my wallet for it. Are you going to also install the tin for the exhaust manifold and heat tube?

Yep, would have to buy heat shield. In Ohio need in Winter time.

Next will be oem valve covers I bought. But, these later models don't leak....

Re: 1968 Air Cleaner BBC

The air cleaner housing on my 68 396, has no warm air tube, or any way to connect one. It also does NOT have the vacuum pod on the snorkel. It's just a plain single snorkel air cleaner housing. In fact it's smaller than the link pictured, 71/72 unit. You'd think it would be fairly big............unless mine is incorrect.

I've never seen a 68 unit for sale, here. I'd like to find one I could afford, mine is a little rough...

Re: 1968 Air Cleaner BBC

Likely a unit from a year previous, before that heat tube was used. A smaller inlet size may mean that it was on a SBC. Then again, it could be a Federal emissions setup, Vs California emissions. That's long enough ago that I've forgotten the differences, even though I was an emissions tech in the '70s and '80s.

I don't know. The exhaust manifold has no sheet metal attached for the breather tube...
I bought my 68 in 1980. Everything on it was stock...although wore out.

Re: 1968 Air Cleaner BBC

My truck's air cleaner housing (the picture is mine) has the vacuum motor, but no indication at all that it ever had the sheet metal. Given that this truck ran hot from the very first day my FiL bought it, I'm betting he removed it. That, or when he had the engine rebuilt 40 years ago, it got left off. They put the heads back on opposite sides too, because the coolant temp sensor is on the passenger's side. I looked in both the service and overhaul manuals for '68 and neither shows that system. Your truck probably didn't come with it.
