Re: My new project 86 Silverado

Ooof... Finally finished reading this thread from the start till now...Took a few days but eh. I really started to get interested once the 455 Olds made progress as my '84 has a '74 Olds 350 Rocket swapped into it. It also helped me figure out how the heck they even got it in there in the first place. Didnt realize it was practically a bolt in just as simple as a Chevy once you have the right block side mounts. Though I am curious about what headers work for an olds swap in these trucks? I looked at the Noxious custom ones you linked then seen you went for headmans. Finding a set of long tubes that may work would be nice. I am not too worried about them hanging low as they will likely be as low as the Y pipe on my truck is at the moment. I think I saw mention of G body application ones working?

Re: My new project 86 Silverado

Thank you for reading through my build!
I went with Hedman long tubes for the big block 455
They make ones for your small block 350.

Some of The Pontiac trans am’s came with Olds small block 403’s. Those are the block and frame mounts to use to bolt in Oldsmobile engines
The headers for those cars will fit. Hooker also makes them for the early cutlass’s

Plenty of room in the c10’s for long tubes. I went with Hedman for the price
Don’t use big block headers on a small block, they’ll hang down further under the truck due to the difference in engine deck height dimensions

If you have any questions feel free to ask

Quite welcome, Even though I am from Canada and am a former first responder I will still say it. Thank you for your service.

So if I am understanding what you said above correctly I can use headers intended for a late 2nd gen Fbody with the 403 or headers from similar-year G bodies that would have had the 350. Also, I saw that you used Ford roller rockers on the 455. Would the same application work on my 350 as the SBO and BBO have a lot of parts that can swap over back and forth? The BBO heads are an example of this.

Re: My new project 86 Silverado

A lot of g bodies came with Chevrolet 350’s not Oldsmobile
So you have to make sure they’re for an Oldsmobile 350 engine
Most likely any header from a small block Oldsmobile car should fit in
A c10

Yes a ford roller rocker will fit the 350
For a mild engine I recommend comp cams magnum
1441-kit roller rocker kit for small block olds, available at jegs

Thanks for the info! Yea I'm keeping mine fairly mild. Will hopefully be looking into an overhaul by next fall with a new set of speed pro pistons which will bring me up to 9.5:1 CR with my current #8 smog heads. Looking towards a Comp Cams "Thump'r" grind or something similar in the Lunati Voodoo cams.

If it wouldn't cost me as much as it did for you to build the engine to ship it up here to Canada i would seriously think about it lol. That said...I may idly look for a 455 to drop in place of my 350 and drop the 350 into my '69 now that i know what mounts would be needed. Granted i will need to get some of the frame mounts themselves from a 73-87 C10 to convert to the newer clamshell mount. Though at the same time i kinda wonder what it would take to drop an Olds into a GMT400 chassis. Im in the process of buying an old rat rod i had once owned back. Except that in the years since i had it the body has been swapped to a '93 C1500 chassis to gain modern suspension and braking.

Hoping for an update. I've got this waiting to drop in my Burban so I'm a fan of your truck.
