1972 K20 Suburban

Picked this one up recently. Went to a few car shows with the wife and kids in my Chevelle this summer and got the bug for a Suburban again. Something everyone can roll in comfortably. I looked at a 2wd that was very original but very rusty. Then I came across this one. Reminds me of my other K20 Suburban I had. Lots of cool factory options and the guy bought it from the original owners. I’ve never seen this much paperwork with a 67-72. It’s rusty as well but a bit more desirable to me being a K20. Will be a fun one to do and I’m a sucker for medium Olive due to the Blazer I restored. I’m probably going to run green Highlander seats in it. I have a 3rd seat stashed away so I’m good there. Will need to figure out the roof A/C. I have some spare parts but missing the tunnel panels.

Re: 1972 K20 Suburban

I’m guessing this one saw some duty backing a boat in due to the lower rear quarter rust. Suburban’s all seem to rust in the same places. Cowl and roof are solid. This is my first barn door Suburban. Not sure if I will like them or not. I think the hatch and tailgate are more aesthetically pleasing.

Thumbs up Re: 1972 K20 Suburban

Love both of your Medium Olive trucks. It's amazing how expensive the overhead A/C system option was. Over 1/8 the cost of the entire vehicle!

Looks pretty good to me. Amazing that all of the accessories are still there, I'm sure it's because it's a one owner. Def. worth restoring

Re: 1972 K20 Suburban

What tunnel panels are you talking about? 72's didn't have the long tunnel that goes all the way up the middle. Neat find btw, Im sure you will do it proud.

Re: 1972 K20 Suburban

That is an awesome Suburban. I agree that the tailgate/lift gate might be a bit more pleasing with the uninterrupted rear window and all but being able to set things down in the back without leaning in is so nice.

nicely optioned and not butchered, definitely going to be a beautiful rig judging by how your blazer turned out. whoever ordered that beast knew which boxes to check.

Re: 1972 K20 Suburban

All those options and green too! Bought wisely then and now.

If you don't like the barn doors you can always swap it to the hatch and tailgate. One thing about the hatch and tailgate is if the truck is lifted much you need to be rather tall or have a step stool to get the hatch opened and closed if you stay with the factory hatch supports. Probably similar to your Blazer but I've never been around any Blazers other than S10's so I may be wrong.

Re: 1972 K20 Suburban

I’ll be watching this one buddy. I’m intrigued by the no headliner. I ripped out my old headliner last weekend but now I’m thinking of finishing the roof like you have. I’m sure you’ll put the effort and love into this one like the last one.

Re: 1972 K20 Suburban

Thanks everyone. I did not know the 1972’s did not have the A/C roof tunnels. Undecided on what to do for headliner. Still have never heard of someone that has used the brothers headliner. I think some of the panel materials others have used from a hardware store are a good option.

Re: 1972 K20 Suburban

I used original headliner panels. Contact cemented material that I used for reupholstering rear seat onto the panels. 25 years ago.
