Windshield washer pump
I had gotten a new washer pump from the past Carlisle swap meet and when I checked it the next day to my original one I found that the new one is different. I didn't do too much looking online but the ones I have found so far all been like the new I got. So my question is where can I find an exact match or closer to an exact match for an original style washer pump? My other question is if there is a way for them to be rebuilt completly? Mine as of now doesn't work at all.
Thank you to who reply. Jack |

Re: Windshield washer pump
Back in 2017 I found the pump in my 67 Burban was shot and after a lot of research and searching I discovered that there are at least 2 styles of pump. The one I had (Which I call the early style as I believe it was used on the 60-66 trucks) has no direct replacement or rebuild parts. I believe the later style will work in place of the early style.
Photo of the bad parts from mine. Maybe a replacement for the early style could be found through a different model earlier GM vehicle like a Corvette

Is it that the motor won’t come on when you turn the switch? Do the wipers go back and forth? Or, does it come on, but the pump just doesn’t squirt fluid? The motor issue is obvious. The pump? These type pumps are notorious for “Drain back”, where the fluid drains away from the pump, but then there’s not enough pressure to pull the fluid back up into the system. Have you tried “Priming” the pump? I had to do this with mine to get it working. Take a squeeze bottle filled with fluid and hook it to the hose, squeeze the bottle, while the pump is actuated. Unless the diaphragm and seals a dried out, this may fix your issue. Rebuilding the pump itself is pretty easy. Good luck |

The motor doesn't come on at all when I push the button, almost like it's just burnt out from years of use or corroded from sitting unused. The wipers do work when I turn the switch, and when I press it in for the washer and wipers. Is there a fuse for the washer motor that could be bad? Thank you |

That I did not know since this truck never had good hoses to try the washer system prior. I just assumed it was like another truck we have where it's an actual motorized pump. With that I'm going to redo the hoses and give it another shot, and will update afterward. The new pump is still different so if the old one doesn't work I may have to try rebuilding it, even though theres some back and fouth about that. |

Re: Windshield washer pump
The replacement pump I installed on my truck was bigger than the original, but it had holes that lined up with the original mounting screws. One of the holes was kind of hidden, and it required the use of a spacer that was included with the new pump.

Be sure and prime it to fill the pump and hoses. I use a turkey baster and hook it to the hose at the tank.

Re: Windshield washer pump
Oh alright not too complicated to deal with. But, you wouldn't happen to have a picture of that spacer would you? If not no big deal, just have to do some searching. But besides that mine didn't come with a spacer, wonder if it got returned and wasn't rechecked.

Re: Windshield washer pump
The spacer is a little aluminum tube (standoff) that the mounting screw fits through. I don't have a photo of it, but it is shown in the instructions that came with my pump. The spacer is item F in the instructions.
