Roof top box
I am looking at a roof top box for my summer trip to increase lockable storage for my rcsb truck. I will make a rack over the bed for it to mount.
Well the largest Ilsize I found was 18 cu foot, but no matter the size. The weight limit is 110 pounds. Is this due to the roof rack system a car has? Or because of the plastic floor the unit is made of? For reference one of the items I like. https://www.amazon.com/JEGS-Performa...2&gad_source=1 |

Re: Roof top box
These types are made of very thin molded plastic so they aren’t very strong but if it’s mounted on a solid surface it should hold more .

Re: Roof top box
Rather than a roof mount cargo carrier mounted on a rack over the bed why not invest in a bed top cover? Would be weather proof, secure and more covered storage space during your trip. A bit more $$ but think it would be money well spent over a small plastic cargo carrier. Just a thought.

Re: Roof top box
Ah, now the "rest of the story" and the situation becomes clear. Understand, not sure I have ever seen a locking hard cover for a step side bed. Your method you mention may well be your best best with a caveat. Would suggest a piece of plywood on the the fashioned support rack with the cargo carrier firmly resting on the plywood. That way the plastic carrier bottom is no carrying the weight, it is transferred to the plywood and your bed cross rack.

Re: Roof top box
I have two of these Condition 1 cases I also have the Contico type both work well and made in the USA
https://condition1.com/products/rebel-sportsman-trunk The Contico has a hinged lid the Condition 1 has a lift off lid both are lockable . I’ve had the Cintico outside for over a year no water or cracks . I like the hinged lid better but both work great and can be stacked . The Contico is much more money https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pr...o-pro-tuff-bin

Re: Roof top box
If you were closer I’d give you the one off my old motorcycle trailer . I had a lot more than 150lbs in it at times . Like been said it’s the bottom and most roof racks aren’t rated for a lot of weight
