Increase 1967 C20 3/4 ton load carrying..

Add load carrying capacity. Extra Springs?

I will add front sway bar.

I can carry 200gal water fairly well. Tank is back due to tool box.

Like to be able to safely haul 300gal.

Adding a rear sway bar would help too, but that's really a job for a 1T truck, since the tank's over a ton when full.

What’s the GVWR in the plate? My 72 c20 is 7500 lbs the truck itself is less than 5k . So over 2500lbs capacity that’s the approx weight of 300 gallons of water . I would go from there .

Lots of limitations on old trucks . Age of the springs and axles is one as is the braking system. Drums would have a lower ability to stop a fully loaded truck . But modern E rated tires are better than old bias plies so that’s a plus .

Also 4x4 trucks usually have less payload and GCVWR because they are usually heavier than their 2 wheel drive counterparts.

If you have leaf springs, find a set of Helwig helper springs. I rolled across the dump scales many times over 10k hauling broken concrete about 15 miles. Obviously way overloaded, it was 45 yrs ago and I was invincible. Put many more miles on the truck after that project. 71 c20 custom camper. These trucks are mighty strong but know you are taxing every part of a now 55 year old rig.

Here is the most economical set of Helper springs that I found on a quick search.

Link: https://www.truckspring.com/products...elper-991.aspx

Summit had some better sets that cost More.

Thanks, great points.

I like the helpers,I ve used hellwigs on my 2006 1500.
My drum brakes work good, PO added hydraboost system. 4.57 gear helps up hill.

I might stick to 250gal.

Re: Increase 1967 C20 3/4 ton load carrying..

I added Timbren "rubber springs" to assist my 2000lb leafs. I think the kit was not designed for leaf suspension, so the mounts didn't work at all and I had to fabricate my own. Kind of a pain in the ass but I'm really happy with the results.

It still rides like a couch and now I can haul a full yard of dirt or rock without the rear getting all sad and squatty like a Carolina truck or whatever.

My CG for water tank being pushed back from tool box, hurts some.

My Chev 2500HD 4dr long bed can haul 425gal tank full. It's a truck.
It carried my 3200lb Lance camper "geared up" and towed Chevy wagon

Could you change to side mount toolboxes and still have room for water tank and tools you need?

. I had a trailer 3500lb single axle, buy that was a mess on wash board road.
