The Ultimate Craigslist find thread

Bill,

I was wondering that myself. If it is not factory, somebody did a real nice installation. I know they did use the 4-53 in some of the medium duty trucks in the 60's just not sure what years.

In '65 for sure. I would have to check my books to see if it was in any earlier models. That '67 does look factory. GM goofed. They should have had a 4-53 starting with the '60 Model. GMC got the Toro-Flow Diesel for a while, but wasn't anywhere near as good.

Impressive that they had them in the late 70's again though. You have one of the great ones.

I am really happy with mine. I have operated these medium duty trucks with VT-225 Cummins (10 sp), 454 (13 sp), 350 (5 X 2), 262 (4 X 2) and the 4-53T (5 X 2). The 4-53T will out perform all of them except the Cummins which was only slightly better. However the Cummins was gear bound at 59 MPH, very smoky exhaust, and short lived 50K at best.
