Truck hauler in Northern CA

Hello Everyone

I have a 68 C10 SWB that is 250 miles north of me that I need to go and pickup. I would drive it home but the brakes dont work. I dont know if its the master cylinder, prop valve, or broken lines I dont have time to troubleshoot it. I need to get it off of the property and back to my house.

Does anyone know of a company that can tow it via flatbed or car hauler etc?
Did a search and found a few that had the semi trailer but that wont work because this is in a rural area off of a gravel road.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Truck hauler in Northern CA

It's been several years since I've had a "project" like yours.. Here's what I did.. I went to U-Haul and rented a 3/4 ton truck and car hauler trailer.. Drove to the location, loaded up the vehicle and brought it home... Returned the truck/trailer to the same place I rented it.. I rented it based on time, not mileage, was cheaper that way....

I have never done this so I have questions. The location is 250 miles north of me. Me and a friend drive up to the city its in, rent a truck and trailer and drive it back south 250 miles and return the truck and trailer to my local uhaul?

Thanks!

No rent the truck and trailer near you. Confirm they are available on the date needed. Drive up to pick up the truck and once back home return the truck and trailer locally.
Bring a come a long in case you need to winch the truck on the trailer.

Re: Truck hauler in Northern CA

I did that a while back but had a hard time getting the trailer. I told the first rental place what I was going to pick up and they would not rent the trailer to me saying my 72 long bed wouldn't fit. I went to another rental place and said I was hauling a mid 2000s SUV and they rented the trailer to me! Doh! Just FYI, my truck did fit.

Re: Truck hauler in Northern CA

I rented a U-Haul trailer for $45/day to drag my son's car back from SLO.
They hooked it up and I drove away, utterly painless

No.. That's referred to as "One Way Rental".. More expensive because the rental fees are computed on mileage. Plus, agency loses the inventory.. Rent the trailer and/or truck locally and return it to the same agency.. The fees are then computed on time (daily)..

That’s the way to do it.
Just go and rent the truck/trailer, and take an overnight road trip.
Don’t be afraid, because the U-Haul will provide you with all the straps and chains needed to secure the load to the trailer.
Load the truck with the front first, to put the most weight forward of the trailer axles.
One suggestion I would have, is to use Shoring Blocks under the frame, to cinch the load down onto a solid surface. This will prevent the load from bouncing while you drive.
Just take your time there and back.
