Experiences with Repop Comfort Steering Wheels
Bought and just received a comfort steering wheel from Summit. Material quality looks good. However, where the overmold line forms over the metal ring on the outside dia of the wheel, the fit is off. The over mold is actually larger than the metal, so the metal is recessed some what. Is this common? Or should I be talking to summit about this? What are you guys seeing on yours? Does the overmold compress down over time? Kind of hard to see. Just worried it will be uncomfortable.
Bad picture but this is the section I am talking about. |

Re: Experiences with Repop Comfort Steering Wheels
The handful of repop ones I have had are like this. Its a tad more pronounced than an original, but I also have several original wheels as well and the least worn ones have this as well, then as they age and wear the band can actually come loose and sit proud as the rubber/plastic off gases and shrinks over time. I dont really feel it all on my current repop I have in my truck.

Re: Experiences with Repop Comfort Steering Wheels
I just bought one from Jegs and can check when I’m back in town to see how that center band looks on mine.
I will say that I’m not thrilled with how these steering wheels feel in your hand, like a cheap arcade from the 80s… But I do love the look

Re: Experiences with Repop Comfort Steering Wheels
By the way, what does “repop” mean?
Do you just mean reproduction?

Re: Experiences with Repop Comfort Steering Wheels
I see what you are experiencing.
The metal ring is recessed slightly on my comfort steering wheel grip material as well. I like the look but am not happy with the diameter of the grip as I have large meat hook hands. I may consider and try out a leather wrap for a larger comfortable grip.

Re: Experiences with Repop Comfort Steering Wheels
Thanks for everyone's inout. Sounds like this is just normal. Going to install it and get used to it. It doesn't sound like it is overly uncomfortable. And it is is I think I will samkost odea of a leather wrap.

Re: Experiences with Repop Comfort Steering Wheels
What Sam said.
I have manual steering, and it is really uncomfortable trying to muckle onto it when you need to. Also doing the palm-wipe-steer motion……it’s a little “gritty” in texture and chews up the butt of your hand a little. Overall 3-stars. Look is great but does seem a little cheap. The application for me, isn’t right. I want a larger diameter grip. |

Re: Experiences with Repop Comfort Steering Wheels
I think everyone is accustomed to the modern fat steering wheels that everything has had for at least 20 years. So, when occasionally driving the older stuff, it feels off.
