Should I still oil new head bolts which now come with thread locker?

Hello All,

Once I clear out the threads on the head bolt holes of my 1990 5.7 liter engine block, I was curious to know why Fel-Pro does not want you to add sealant or oil to the threads? Does adding sealant or oil detrimental to the thread sealant Fel-Pro has already applied?

Thanks for any help.

The Fel-Pro directions for the new head bolts say:

Fel-Pro products are the result of exhaustive research and strict quality control. However, no sealing product is better than the quality of its installation.

HEAD BOLTS

IF BOLTS have a sealant pre-applied to the threads and underside of bolt head, simply install the bolts.

ADDITIONAL SEALANT/OIL IS NOT REQUIRED.
Two types of cylinder head bolts have been used on the small block Chevrolet series of engines, an old style 5/8” hex wrench size and a new style 1/2” hex wrench size. The new style bolt has been introduced as a running change by OEM.

These bolts can be intermixed. All bolts are functional regardless of head configuration and are applicable to all make, model and
years listed.

IMPORTANT: Consult latest OEM torque specifications.
