Early Style - Bolt From Behind Rally Caps

Have seen reference to these from time to time but never as a full set of four previously. As in the title, there is no provision for bolting these thru the front of the cap to the wheel. They bolt on from the back of the wheel using a 1/4-20 NC bolt or screw head fastener. Not sure which, these came with a mix-mash of bolt head, common and Phillips head fasteners. Good bright shine on all but also all have some condition issues such as dings, nicks with some loss of the chrome plate. Hard to get decent pics of chrome or stainless. One is missing the Chevrolet bow tie emblem, other three emblems are present. When did GM change from this style to the more commonly found caps with the 5/16'' bolt thru the front of the cap?

Any thoughts on value of these for posting to the parts forum are appreciated. Not show quality but good 10 footers for a cleaner no bolts showing look to the rally style wheel.

Re: Early Style - Bolt From Behind Rally Caps

It was always my understanding that the bolt from behind rally caps were the first design and GM used them on the early squares up until the design change in late 75-76? No expert on square bodies at all but believe this style came first and then the bolt from the front type.

Re: Early Style - Bolt From Behind Rally Caps

I've got two nice sets, one with the Bowtie, all chrome, and one with the GMC logo, chrome with a black painted flange (the GMC set is NOS). The GMC version came with the Gentleman Jim, 1975, at the very least. The all-chrome Bowtie version came on some vans and Impalas, from what I remember researching. They have different part nos.

I bought the Bowtie version before I found the GMC version for my dad's Gentleman Jim. I think my dad prefers the all-chrome look so I might replace the Bowtie emblems and store the GMC caps.

Check the ebay. There's always a random cap and sometimes a full set of the all-chrome Bowtie caps. The GMC ones seem a lot more rare.
