new wind screen & wiper blade replacement

.

Glass guys showed up today to replace the wind screen on my '67. While they attempted that, I tried to fix my bent up wiper blade and found that while I was able to get most of the damage out of it, there's a crack and the material is very thin so it needs to be replaced. The thing appears to be stainless, just like the wind screen trim and is polished nice and shiny. Where can I find a replacement?

The new glass going in is a different manufacturer than what went in last time and feels a tad thicker. The Precision gasket they brought along fit really loose. Just as last time, they position the gasket on the glass, place the trim into the gasket, secure it down with tape and then install the rope into the gasket where the pinch weld will go. Then the whole assembly is placed into it's home. The first attempt failed with the trim getting released from the gasket during the roping-in process. They started the rope pull at the bottom and found by the time they got to the top, everything went caddywampus. The thinking now is they need to start from the top. They've took off for another (easier) job for now and will return later this afternoon to finish and bring along another person with more experience.

Here we go again!

-Kevin

Re: new wind screen & wiper blade replacement

They came back and tried a few more times without success. The trim would separate from the gasket at the top. Thinking now is the gasket is either wrong or was stretched too far out of the box. Indeed, when they put the gasket on glass, it was obviously a very loose fit. The gasket had been sold and used by another party before being returned and now we have it. So...new gasket and will try again.

Any hints on window install with trim? This trim is the shallow sort which I believe was equipped on earlier 67-72s. Gonna go look on LMC for the wiper blade and maybe learn something about the various trim types.

Thanks,

-Kevin

Re: new wind screen & wiper blade replacement

I’m fairly certain the shallower trim is later model (71-72) and the deep trim is earlier. If not paired with the correct gasket that will be a problem. Deep trim is 5/8” or so and I’ve heard easier to install.

Re: new wind screen & wiper blade replacement

I feel like I’m watching wheeler dealers with all this talk of wind screens. Shallow trim is definitely 71-72.

Re: new wind screen & wiper blade replacement

I believe this is the stock type wiper blade I got, but the part numbers for these wipers and refills and what it comes with have changed in the last couple of years. https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/WIP61533
I clicked on the thread to find out what a wind screen is, still not sure. :-)

Re: new wind screen & wiper blade replacement

Here is a link for the stock type wiper blades. I doubt they come polished though. I bought ACDelco brand a few years ago but I don't remember from where or what the part number is.

Copy & Paste from Glass.com...You're welcome.....

Windscreen:
The window glass at the front of a vehicle, through which the driver and front seat passenger of a car view the road and the world is known in some countries as the windscreen. In most of North America and specifically in the United States, this glass is called the windshield.

Thanks guys...looks like the Summit set might just be coming my way.

Oh and I stand corrected: it's windscreen not wind screen LOL

I think it was supposed to be this:

"In most of North America and specifically in the United States, this glass is called the windshield."

Another quote "of coarse we can't fix it, do you think this show is Wheeler Dealers!!"

Re: new wind screen & wiper blade replacement

My buddy and I put the windshield in my '67 but it didn't have the trim.
I think starting at the top would be better because the upper corners are sharp and it makes it difficult to get the gasket in place .
We started at the bottom but still managed to work it in at the top corners.
Definitely not a fun job, took us about 2 hours.
