Paint booth ideas

I was hoping to spray right away, but I just got water in my basement from my old block foundation. I'm having a company come and install a water guard on the block on the inside that will run down to interior drain tile that they will be putting in as well as installing metal I beam braces on one of the walls. I have to demo the walls and ceiling and get everything prepped for them to come before the 4th. Not what I wanted to do this summer.

Back to the booth - I know the windows are close, but thats what I have to work with. I didnt want to lose my garage space where my car sits and I didnt want to take this booth apart and reassemble it. Im hoping that it will be good enough air flow. I can adjust the speeds of the fan as well so I have some flexibility. I like your idea of adding something to bring the intake air in more if need be. We shall see...

I gotta go pick some epoxy up soon with a primer gun and paint suit and all that. Its gonna be an expensive year for sure...

This is a great thread, as I'm going to build a paint booth in my shop. Since my shop is not air conditioned, I'll be buying a window unit to use for the paint booth. It gets way too hot out there!

I painted my 68 in stages not the best but I didn’t have the room for a full booth . 13x13 pop up with 6 mil plastic and a zipper door . I used a small explosion proof fan to pull air out and a box fan to push air in was basically a positive flow booth . Worked very well .

I finished my diy paint booth/shop-within-a-shop. I bought a window a/c and it is a game changer. I used 2x4s and 6 mil plastic to make the 12'x18' area. I haven't got it set up to paint in yet, but not far off!

Finally got a chance to spray. Since this is the first time I've ever sprayed anything, I figured I'd start on something that won't be seen. These are the wood bed support braces. I only hung three of them. Next time I might just do two - I found myself bumping them more than I thought. These pics are just before I sprayed. Hung tie wire from shallow strut - worked pretty good. Just need a bunch more practice on gun control.

It mind sound trivial but I always walk around my parts, vehicle, etc with my hand making the spraying motion. When you get to the point where parts are on stands or the cab is in there. It's also good to do this walk with your air hose in hand and figure a game plan for dragging it around. I do this to make sure I can get to all the angles needed and also get around everything without bumping into stuff. Even before I paint a car. I walk the car to figure out the best approach for painting and planning my overlaps. When spraying parts, there will be times I have them hung a touch too high and I can't get the top. A couple mins to game plan can also help calm the nerves.

I've gleaned some good info on building a home paint booth from the youtube channel 'Home Built by Jeff".
He built his to be temporary and has painted several vehicles in it so far with good results.

Thanks for all the ideas and help. I've sprayed on three different occasions and so far so good. After the first time, I only hung two braces which gives me more than enough room to walk around without bumping into anything. I mist the floor with a pump sprayer. I'm pretty surprised at how much the exhaust filter catches. After three times, I believe its time to change the filter. So far, I'm happy with the booth. Can't wait to keep spraying. Now it's just figuring out where to store all these parts...
