Bed side toolbox lock

Where can I get a bed side tool box lock? Over the last few months I have collected the latch, door, plastic tool box, hinges, support rod. All i need is the lock mechanism...

I may have a lock cylinder that will work but I don't have the cam that attaches to the back of the lock. I think there was a member on here making them at one time but I don't remember who it was. I will check and see what I have.

Re: Bed side toolbox lock

Hi folks, I realize this is an old thread, so if there is another more recent, I’d be happy to post there.

I have a 1972 Cheyenne super, with bedside toolbox. Since I wasn’t able to unlock it with a key, I followed the advice to drill a 3/4” hole in the box below and after some effort I was able to pop the lock retainer clip off, remove the lock and then open the door. Nothing but cobwebs and dust inside unfortunately. Looks like I am going to need to replace the part of the latch that moves up and down as it is rusted beyond recognition. Any recommendations on how to acquire that part? Has anyone tried making it with a cnc machine?

Happy to post pics if anyone is interested, any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Brian,

That piece is called the lock/latch bolt. I haven't seen any posts on here where someone has made one or had one made but I may have missed them. It would certainly be possible I would think. Yours would have to be good enough to get a pattern off of though.....

Re: Bed side toolbox lock

hi Mr LockDoc, thanks for replying!

My latch assembly (the inside portion) is so corroded I would never be able to use it for a pattern unfortunately. Interestingly, the spring is missing. The outer part that has the 2 screws that hold the assembly to the door is in great shape.

I have a friend who has a metal CNC machine so was thinking that, perhaps, given a pattern, that he could make one. I am guessing that the spring would be relatively easy to replace.

Question, do you still rekey the bedside locks? If so, what would you charge if I sent you mine for a rekey?

Thanks in advance!

I have one that I could get some measurements and pictures off of.

The cost to re-key your lock would be $15.50 plus shipping back to you.

I will PM you my info.

Thanks,
Leon

Re: Bed side toolbox lock

Hi Leon,

Thanks for the offer to measure the lock latch! I think I may need to scan it with special scanning software in order to make a copy using a CNC machine, but I am new to that. Thanks for the contact info! I will let you know when I get ready to send it so we can figure out shipping, etc.

Thank you!

OK, The one I have here now belongs to member "Dieselwrencher". If I had one of my own I would send it to you to use for a pattern....

Re: Bed side toolbox lock

Unfortunately I had to watch the classifieds here for 3-4 years before I found the parts for mine. I mistakingly drilled the lock because I had no key when I bought the bed, not knowing how hard these are to get ahold of.

I have done that same thing with other vehicles.

I have drilled a few locks.

Who would have known.

Especially the (Other ) next body style that I scraped a Bunch of Trucks.

They are gold now.
