I appreciate it Scott. :-) I am actually getting closer. I am hoping to finish the body work on the bed this weekend.

Re: "BUILD: 1970 C10 LWB--->SWB “Jumping Cholla”

Weekend progress...Exhaust is nearly complete, just need to add a couple of hangers to hold it up. I may need to rework the passenger side exit. I have about 3" of clearance between the axle tube and exhaust. I'm not really sure how much up travel these rear coils have. I haven't gone fully out the back yet as I don't have a rear bumper to help with mock up, so that last bit will have to wait. Also go the O2 bungs welded in.

The Boyd Welding fuel tank arrived on Friday afternoon and it's sexy. The boy and I got it installed that evening. It looks great sitting between the frame rails and from below.

I also sprayed some Eastwood Underhood Black on the core support. I had hit it with some epoxy months ago. I wanted to get it finished so it would be ready to bolt some fenders to it in the near future.

Goals for this week of "truck stuff" (what my wife and daughter call garage time) is to finish the exhaust, plumb fuel lines, and get the rear brake lines installed. The SS brake line kit I bought was called a disc conversion set, but that was really only for the front. The rear lines were long and meant for direct connection to drums not calipers. I ordered a shorter set from POL that will hopefully be here this week. Inching closer to the cab and fenders getting bolted together

The Boyd's tank is pretty sweet in person. One of the most expensive stickers and beer koozies I've ever bought!

Re: "BUILD: 1970 C10 LWB--->SWB “Jumping Cholla”

Exhaust is done and welded/all bolted in. I didn't get the fuel and brake lines installed like I was hoping for this week, but I did throw the cab on the frame . I had to clean off all the dust/dirt that accumulated on it from sitting on my rear patio for the last month.

Now with the cab on the frame I can figure out a brake booster/mc that will fit and hopefully run all the lines. Also, same scenario with the fuel lines, I should be able to determine the best route to get the carb with the cab on.

I did paint all the door hardware (hinges, latches and bolts) the same color as the body. Also got the hood latch and core to fender triangle brackets painted with the Underhood Black too

Starting to look like a truck again, which feels good.

Thanks, it was 115 here yesterday. I'll drink 1 gallon of water along with a few beers any given Saturday or Sunday in the garage and not even have to go to the bathroom. You don't even want to go in the pool when you're done working because that water is 90 degrees and feels like a spa.

It will get cooler soon.....like around Halloween

Thanks, let's see if I can keep all the paint on the door hinge bolts when they go on!

Re: "BUILD: 1970 C10 LWB--->SWB “Jumping Cholla”

Weekend progress update.... I got the core support and radiator installed and threw on the fenders then pushed it out of the garage and into the sun. The paint and bodywork isn't perfect and I'm ok with it. I can see some dings that I missed filling, and I have some orange peel in the single stage paint that I will try to fix at some point. I will have a touch up spot on the drivers rocker from the door rubbing when I was getting everything fitted. Totally didn't notice it rubbing until it was too late. I got the door latches and striker plates installed and things close and open with no issues now.

I started cleaning up (wire wheeled, primed, and painted black) the steering column brackets, braces, and hardware. I had ordered a new CPP tilt column that showed up on Friday. So now I have everything ready for that install at some point soon. I was planning on rebuilding my original non-tilt column but everything in it was junk. All the plastic inside was brittle and falling apart, the wiring was hacked, and it was a non-tilt column. I decided to go with a new piece and be done with it.

I still need to do brake and fuel lines that I keep putting off. I also need to get a booster and master cylinder too.

I'm debating which route to do on the wiring harness. Anyone have a preference on American Autowire vs Painless Performance? Or maybe a different vendor?

Starting to collect a nice pile of parts to get installed, just need to put in the time and effort to get it done.

Re: "BUILD: 1970 C10 LWB--->SWB “Jumping Cholla”

Progress update. I spent the weekend plumbing fuel and brake lines. I really should've done this before I put the cab on the frame and built the exhaust to make it a bit easier of an install.

The hard SS brake lines are all installed and clamped down to the xmember/frame rails and front flex lines are done. I still need to mount the tabs for the flex lines on the rear axle and run those hard lines and connect the flex drop from the frame. The line from the front to the rear was just a few inches too long and I had to bend a couple jogs in the line to "shorten" it to get the rear drop connection. The Inline Tube kit I bought didn't really match up to the CPP disc swap kit I installed months ago. I had to find some adapters to get the differences in the kits to mate up (7/16 to 3/8). Napa had the parts I needed so it wasn't that big of a deal just an inconvenience to have to run out and get them. I also got the POL booster/mc test fitted on the firewall. I think I'm going to break it apart and paint the booster and brackets black. The gold doesn't really blend in with everything else.

The fuel lines are complete from the tank to the firewall. I'm going to mount the fuel regulator on the firewall to the left of where the A/C hose connections would be a future VA unit. I'm running a 750 CFM carb for the initial setup and will phase 2 an EFI swap for later on. So right now, I have both supply and return lines clamped in place with inline 100 micron pre-filter, Walbro pump, and a 40 micron post-filter installed and clamped down to the inner frame rails. I started test bending some hard lines to connect the rubber lines at the firewall up to the fuel regulator. I think it will help the install look cleaner under the hood.

Hopefully I can get some garage time this week and finish up these last little items on the brake and fuel. Once I get the booster painted, I can get the steering column installed. Then I need to plumb transmission lines and power steering lines, have a driveshaft built, and find some radiator hoses. Getting closer hearing it run.

Yes, the whole truck will be re-wired. Leaning toward the "Classic Update" American Autowire kit over the Painless Performance one. I haven't seen really bad reviews for either one, just seems like more dudes like the Amercian kit over the painless.

Re: "BUILD: 1970 C10 LWB--->SWB “Jumping Cholla”

8/19-8/25 Progress update...You can blow these trucks apart way faster than they go back together
  • I finished getting the fuel/regulator lines installed and clamped down
  • Brake line connections are all connected and tightened down
  • Took apart the booster/MC and painted it black and installed back on the firewall along with the brake pedal assembly under the dash. I had rebuilt that months ago and replaced the plastic bushing that was toasted. I still need to connect the lines to the new proportioning valve
  • Refurbished the side cab vents with some new foam and riveted them back together and installed back in the cab.
  • Bolted the battery tray to the core support
  • Modified the rear bottom shock bracket from single shear to double shear bolt support
  • Installed upper support brackets on the front shocks.
  • Installed shocks front and rear
  • Tossed on the carb and air cleaner

I want to get the 454 hot wired and started/running before I get a wiring harness and wire the whole truck. I've been shooting to meet a self-imposed goal by Labor Day and I think I'll miss it by a few weekends.
  • Transmission oil lines/cooler
  • Power Steering lines
  • Radiator hoses
  • Driveshaft
  • Fuel line from regulator to carb

I did a terrible job of taking pictures this weekend, I'll update the tread with some pics in the coming days. Here's a couple of the vents and rear shock mod.
