Cool project! Love the economy-paint job. It’ll look great going down the road

$200 is a great find! Always my favorite to see a truck brought back into running and usable condition with what its already got.

Re: 1978 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe

Finished up the paint today! I didn’t do the hood because it’s absolutely trashed - been bent in half and had reinforcements cobbled underneath. I’m going to try to find a straighter one and install that instead.

Hopefully my wheels come back from powdercoating soon. I had the stock steel wheels done in white, and I’m going to replace the front bumper brackets and repaint it white as well, and find a Suburban/Blazer style rear bumper and do the same. I think I have enough spare light lenses to get all the lights back on too.

I'm liking it! Looking so much nicer.
I think white bumpers and wheels will look good.

Saw these sticker kits on eBay. They were a great investment!

I got my tires prepped last night. I heard from the resto communities that this stuff works miracles on keeping whitewalls clean. Turns out they were absolutely right!

Just picked up the wheels from powdercoating and dropped everything off to be mounted and balanced!

Tires mounted and balanced!

Bought some lug nuts and mounted them on the truck!

I fired it up and tried to see if it would move. It was low on transmission fluid, but after throwing a few quarts in, it moved and drove around the yard!

Rearranged a few cars in the yard - going to place the 454 in the Chevelle and get the 5.7 Vortec/4L80E placed in the ‘80 C10!

Re: 1978 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe

So apparently I’ve sold the inline 6 out of this truck! $500 to a guy that wanted one pretty badly for a log splitter they’re running. Sounds like I’ll be throwing in one of my Vortec 5.7’s with the carb setup after all!

Re: 1978 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe

I tore into the extra Vortec 350 I had today just to see what kind of condition it was in. I knew it was seized, but no external indicators as to why.

It’s not looking great already, lol.

Looks like the 5/6 journal took a beating!

I sort of expected this, but I was hoping the damage wouldn’t be this bad. At this point, I can go one of two ways:

• Source a new crank/rods and rebuild this engine with the Vortec EFI system in place, which would require a fuel system and modifying/purchasing a harness.

• Rebuild the other Vortec motor (basically has scuffed pistons and needs a re-ring, but otherwise serviceable, and run it with a carb conversion intake.

I’m leaning towards the second option because it would be cheaper, faster, and I don’t need trans control with the TH350.

Re: 1978 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe

I would probably go with the second option my self.
But of course it's your decision lol
