Yep, a slow leak from an undetected puncture will kill a tire from heat. Best preventative is to USE a pressure gauge and manually check them every time you stop for gas. Next best is just putting the palm of your hand on each tire will give you a heads up if one is running hotter than the rest. If they all feel too hot, and have a faint odor of hot rubber.....find a gauge and check pressures.
And only read the sidewall of the tire to know what it requires for pressure. Many C and D range tires now require 50-55 lbs to carry the load they are rated for. I have D range tires on my single axle camper rated for 2,200 lbs at 50 PSI. That gives me a safety range of over 800 lbs for the 3,500# trailer.
